Well they are going to sell them somewhere, thats for sure. Maybe Walmart will have its own brand, hence not Venturer.

Wal-Mar isn't the only store that sells electronics. I doubt that Venturer will have a hard time finding places to sell their product.

Interesting. The BDers are going to have a field day with this one.

It's plausible that they could sell their own brand, but they didn't actually say that, or the Alco products won't be in Wal-Mart at all.

The Venturer will sell well, but obviously if it isn't in Wal-mart it will sell less well.

funny, Lee and Co. all said wal Mart is the largest Venturer retailers....4000 or so stores, they all claimed it was basically a tie in, wal mart and cheap players....guess not.

Good question. I would tend to think that statement would indeed include Sam's Club, but I imagine that we'll have wait a bit longer for a definitive answer.

Interesting comments from the U & S guru, about branded items being more valuable at this stage, but of course, thats also pro BDA spin.

Not true.

I'd probably buy a $200 Toshiba over a $150 Venturer. However, I would not buy a $250 Toshiba over a $150 Venturer (unless the Venturer had proven to be utter crap).

That makes no sense. If you have a player that you CAN sell to the mass market, why would you pass it up to continue to carry the players that won't?? BD or HD DVD?

Would Wal-mart have not carried a Venturer BD player for the same price either?

This is a stupid decision to be sure.

I am sure the HD DVD camp did not forget that there is something called Wal-Mart and that they sell A LOT!

Still... with or without Wal-Mart, I'm sure those Venturer players will be a sellout.

Properly priced and plenty available, those players can invert Nielsen numbers for good.

This is a Chinese company that must move volume in order to turn a profit. They wouldn't have made these without orders on hand to buy.

ultimate electronics is over priced anyway, i love his quote that he would take the name brand one's over the chinese one's but from what i can remember a brand called APEX is what really ignited dvd player sales. That was my first one got it for 200 bucks.

My guess is that they don't think these formats have reached enough critical mass for the general public want to buy in with no-name players just yet.

Oh I agree. I just wonder who those orders came from.

Robert Zohn is saying he could possibly get over 1000 by October, so it's likely not just some paper launch (which Venturer isn't known for doing anyway). (1000 players for VE alone isn't what I'd expect Venturer would be jumping at to start a whole new manufacturing run. So there's got to be others, with higher numbers.)

Apex stimulated sales, but it had already been ignited prior to the Apex. DVD players sold at a very brisk rate before anyone had ever heard of the Apex.

just speculation here, but might WM be saying that they won't carry it under the Venture name??? they might slap their ILO name on instead, technically they wouldn't be carrying a Venture product but rather an ILO product. words are everything in PR.

sorry, by wording, I meant' the "between the lines" wording. They were wording it kinda like the "well that depends what sex is" definition by Clinton , using a technicality to leave the door open.

It's the chicken and egg thing. Why even sell a player at any price if only one movie costs over 10% of the price of the player. People look at a player, want one, and then look at the price of the movies that would look best on it and say forget it and go and buy another $50 DVD player.
