The A3 is going on sale at Sears for 169.99. Does this mean that Walmart is gonna follow suit with their A2s???? How do you think this is going to affect other B&Ms???

This is a crazy awesome deal, it's online as well as instore.

I could not find this on the Sears site, where did you? I notice that it says Friday only from 5am to noon. Could this be an early black friday ad, I doubt it? I see other products next to it with the same terms. Please let us know where you found it on their site. Thanks!

So will people FINALLY concede that Toshiba is subsidizing players to gain marketshare?

And it has 2 FREE movies in the box as well.

Not bad, but what is that ABBA deal just below it?

This must be a black Friday deal. I guess all the magor retailers will have a super cheap HDM player. Heck, Target may even discount their one player down to $399.

too bad for all the suckers that jumped on the A2 last week, Toshibas subsidizing the crap out of everything now.

I feel bad for all the suckers who paid $1000 for the Samsung BD-P1000 last year, but that's just my opinion. Apparently, you are the only one pissed that Toshiba is selling low priced players. Getting worried it might affect the winner of the format war?

I was expecting to see some good BF deals, but that's better than I was expecting.

Man, now to decide if I want to deal with the BF nightmare to snag one of these (I typically avoid going out of the house that day).

Ahhh how the Blu-ray fanboys start to go into instant missile defense mode. It is fantastic to watch.

Kind of funny too because in the TV ad I saw for Sears HDTV's during the Pats/Redskins game today specifically mentioned adding and HD DVD player (and no, it wasn't Blu-ray or HDM generic). This would explain the tie-in.

Again, love the instant meltdowns though.

Toshiba is "subsidizing the crap out of everything"? We know Sony was losing $200 on every PS3 sold and is doing another $100 price cut.

I am surprised it will be for online purchases as well. No point of going to a store so early when you can do it with a cup of coffee while in your pajamas

Give away the razors.. buy the companies (studios) making the blades and annihilate the competition.

It's a thing of beauty. The execution of a perfect plan. Let the enemy win for Q1-Q3 and then take them completely out of the war in Q4.

Both sides do it, was there ever a doubt? BTW, the stores usually take a loss on doorbuster items just to draw in more customers. They also usually have a limited stock to reduce losses. Either way, whoever gets one of these at that price is getting a great deal. I love the new look of the A line players.

WOW!

And it's the new A3 . . . Double Wow!

First Wal-Mart, then Best Buy . . now this incredible deal at Sears. HD DVD is on a roll! No chicken/egg problem here - you need a player to see the movie.

ANYONE who is even remotely interested in HDM . . . climb off the fence and get one of these. We are talking the same money as a good HDMI UP DVD player - with HD, with 2 free movies in the box . . . and 5 more by rebate mail in.

Un-freakin-believable!

I wonder how many they will have in the store? We know Walmart has 20-40. If Sears has that many then it will be a good winter for HD DVD.

And what percentage of all BD players in the wild, are heavily subsidized PS3s? Apparently it isn't fair play for Toshiba to do exactly what Sony has been doing with PS3 since day one.

$169 vs. $449? What do I get for $280 more? Well if you pause the movie and then compare 1 frame you will see "something is different"

Let the games begin. Q4 will spell the end for BD. I think this entire strategy was a year in the making and now it's down to the perfect execution.

I wonder how many each Sears will stock that day... 1...2...5? They are at times pretty bad keeping items in stock on a regular day, I wonder how well they'll stock these? Also no rainchecks on BF.

I think that this clearly shows that low pricing is here to stay for HD DVD.

They can certainly afford to sell the A3 at that price, though I don't you'll see it consistently at that level until next year.

However, the A2 will definitely be at under $200 from now onwards - time to buy!

P.S. I will definitely be buying THREE of these players for family and friends! I know some REAL movie fans who would LOVE this player - and who would continue to buy LOTS of HD DVD movies once I give them this.

And THIS is an important point - by my buying this players for friends who would continue to sustain the attach rates, I am helping to drive HD DVD movie sales upwards.
