A couple things to keep in mind:

- These sold out at BestBuy when they were $150. They will sell all they can get at $100

- The unbelievable Black Friday price often becomes the re-appearing discount price within a couple months, if not sooner, for leading edge technology stuff.

Well luckily I'm in Maine, where most of the hicks that go to Wal-Mart here are still asking for VHS tapes, much less HD DVD. So my chances should be pretty good on getting one ( or 2) tomorrow.

I just called and confirmed that they have them in stock at my local walmart, but the girl I spoke with could not confirm the $98.87 price for Nov 2, but she did say that they are not allowed to sell them untill then. She told me the price was $198, said she would have to ask the manager about the sale price and the manager was not there.
The question is, if they have them do they have to honor the online sale price, or is it just select stores?

Yeah, probably. I was at the Flatirons Walmart a few days ago and I saw three boxed A3s (no display unit though) and one BR player (demo unit, no boxed stock apparent). No A2s. But that was three days ago.

There is only one in stock (LOL) and she doesn't know how that is going to be handled if there are many people waiting around before 8am for it. There were none coming in until late next week.

BTW, the price today for it is $298.00

I'm not sure it's going to be worth it for me to even try tomorrow morning.

Just so you know... The person you talked to most likely quoted you the price for the A3 as that's the one selling for $298.00. Corporate has told all stores not to sell these until tomorrow. I wonder how many people that paid the $198.00 will be getting refunded withen the 30 day period.

I just saw on www.betanews.com that the sale is one day only. Too bad, I do have to work.

But maybe this means that the A3 will be cheaper?

Wrong forum, but any reason I should want the A3 instead of the A2?

Thanks,

Rich N.

The person that said they were a manager at the Super Walmart at Colfax and Wadsworth is the one that said all the large market stores had stacks upon stacks including their store.

He hinted around that allocations were made based on total HDTV sales volume for any given store.

It was reported months ago that Walmart purchased 2 million A2's. 2 million? man... That number is just sick, I can't even get my mind around that sort of purchase of any one given product.

I am shocked Toshiba was even able to fullfll that order.

Erm.. have you seen the sears ad? The difference is the price period... even though the A3 is a better player with web enabled features it still isn't at the price for the A2. It's a no brainer.

i hope you're camping out overnight or getting there real early..like 4 or 5 am, because ebay sellers are much more motivated and they always win.

I already have an A2, so I will just be going tomorrow and if they do have them I will pickup the two if not no big deal, I can wait.

This is much bigger than wal-mart!

This is already having a "cascade effect" at all of the other big-box stores. Once the previous poster said BB had just cut to $99, I knew most BBs are sold out; however all of the CCs in my area still had a few. I went to CC since they honor BB pricing. By the time I ordered one on line, the local store was sold out; No problem, there are like 10 others in driving distance. Sure enough, every time I try to get one that store is sold out too.

Disclaimer: I am not a Toshiba Fan Boi, I own a PS3.

However, this is marketing genious. The cascade effect on other stores is inevitable, due to elite-ist type like myself; whom would rather scour the globe for CC to do price matching, rather than deal with the vile rabble who shop at Wal-Mart...

I've got some stuff.

I'm thinking 6:30am-ish. I am going to try to get three at this point.

I have been so pleased with my A1, I just can't even pass these up.

How good is the A2 compared to other HD-DVD players? Obviously it's better than the 360 add-on (which I have).

What features does it have over the A1 and what is it lacking compared to the A3? Are the XA1 and XA2 just the 1080p versions of those players?

Just wondering how good this player actually is.

How good of an upscaler is it? What about load times?
