LMAO, The Blu-Ray.com mods can't delete the posts fast enough from their forums. That's 3 threads so far regarding the HD-A2 going for $99 deleted.

LALALALAL... Can't hear you, Ad does not exist..... LALALALAL... nevermind it will be all over major news sites tomorrow.

If the only thing this promotion accomplishes is to make the blu-ray.com people soil their pants, then it's worth it LMAO......

Maybe they'll have a "limited 1 per person" sign in-store.

I had to send them an email about the description calling it a DVD player. Hopefully they will fix that glaring error.

For all that want to see the Walmart TV add, check this link out. Speed up to the last part of the recording you can see the Add specifically targeted towards the Toshiba HD DVD player.

Why bother? J6P will buy the HD DVD player, go home and play all his old DVD's in it, and then remark to all his friends how much better DVD's look with his new Toshiba DVD player. Later when he learns he can also play HD DVD's in it he will be amazed. Either way, there's no way he won't be satisfied with his purchase.

Then why buy this overpriced $98.87 Toshiba "DVD player" instead of the $39 RCA sitting next to it. I think correctly knowing it's a HD DVD player may explain it to them. Maybe not.

The exact same could be said of many here as well and many other forums of fans on both sides.

Don't do that, just increases the likehood they will all be gone by the time I get through the line.

If it isn't 720p or 1080i/p it isn't HD. If it is 720p or 1080i/p it may not be HD content.

Wow, this is really unbelievable. I never thought that they'd drop to this price point before Black Friday, let alone Christmas. Someone made a thread about the A2's dropping to the sub-$100 range a week or two ago. I have to say, you're quite the prognosticator (forget the name). Good call!

Looks like I'm picking up another A2, along with everyone else here. This will make a nice gift for someone in my family. Race you there!

I agree there are many kiddies on this site but come on, you seriously are comparing AVS to that site?
That site is no better than the hundreds of Xbox 360 or PS3 sites for kids all over the net...I find AVS to be a much more professional place...

KMart going HD DVD Stand alone players exclusive for the holidays.... Check....

Walmart offering $99 HD DVD players for the holidays... Check...

All that is needed now is Warner to raise their red flag and lower the blu one.

lot of fact stretching in this thread or claims of known facts when indeed they are just opinions

fact: the $99 price point is one day only (EDIT: on second look, this is not actually fact but an assumption)
fact: not all WM stores will be stocking this item
fact: the majority of American's don't care about this format and won't be taking time out of their Friday to drop by WM for a $100 price drop... to the same point the majority of the population won't even know about this

now for opinions of my own
WM will likely hold back stock till Friday to prevent having to deal with return/rebuys
other retailers will not price match "special pricing" such as this from WM
a 40 GB PS3 that comes out in the same time period will sell enough units at all retailers that this one day sale will have little new effect on the format war (certainly much less than the game over claims I am hearing in this thread)
dropping the price to $99 for a day could have a negative effect as those who don't get one for $99 might just sit on the sidelines and wait for another price drop instead of spending $199 when they know the lower price can be hit (devaluation of the product)
no one has given much thought that Sony might do a similar one day sale with WM for one of it's products in the upcoming weeks
