When is Blu-ray's one day only $99 sale?

The last point is not a fact and you know it. It's speculation.

Wow, do you feel better now?

Thing is, with the limited quantities available at this price, I expect most if not all the players to be snapped up immediately by enthusiasts like ourselves--for ourselves, for friends and family. Meaning, they'll sell out, HD DVD will get some great press, more people will become aware, and you know, this will all give Wal-Mart time to insert a little "HD-" in front of "DVD" for their next ad on Black Friday!

Yeah listen I'm not condoning it (er I guess I was a lil by laughing along) but whats just as bad (worse really) is one of the BD.com mods actually said in an open thread that he was "saving an account to bomb the threads at AVS on BD victory day".

Dudes goofin off and posting nan na nana's is one thing but as a mod they should keep it above the board a bit more.

The commerical just appeared nationally tonight on some of the most expensive highest reaching broadcast airtime available mid week.

Looks like Wal-Mart paid for the airtime, not Toshiba .

What's sad is if you mention HD DVD over there in any shape or form, you get banned. You have to call it HD DUD or else... THAT'S sad.

I'm not so sure about that. It could be that this is another one of those promotional deals everyone likes to talk about.

Seems likely that it's one day only. Then it probably goes up to $198 (which 2 days ago I thought was a killer deal... and still do if I can put this $99 deal out of my mind ).

And even if it turns out somehow it isn't just 1 day, the stock ain't gonna last long.

When does the sale stop? No time limit is mention, the only limitations seem to the quantity on hand, which may or may not be renewed. With a nation wide tv ad I gotta wonder why they'd bother if it for 1 day or even 1 weekend?

"We are calling these our Black Friday-like specials,"
Quote:

Wal-Mart Jump-Starts Black Friday
The Nov. 2 specials will be available in stores only, beginning at 8 a.m. The event is timed to the official opening of special in-store Christmas shops that will feature select holiday merchandise, including such CE fare as Nintendo Wii consoles and Guitar Hero III bundles.

The pre-Black Friday promotion is part of a holiday marketing campaign that emphasizes low prices and premium brands under the overarching theme “Save money, live better.”

One example of the strategy is a forthcoming TV spot that showcases a Toshiba HD DVD player, which a fictitious wife bought for her husband at “an incredible price, even for Wal-Mart.” Another ad notes that “Wal-Mart saves the average family $2,500 a year.” It then asks, “What will you do with your savings?”

Sorry westgate I didn't see you post before I posted. No problem accepting it's a 1 day only event, hell it just makes good sense, but most BF ads (like the sears A3) stress the time limit.

Really though, why nitpick. Nobody though it could happen this Christmas. Apparently Toshiba has decided that it had to happen this Christmas, and they've pulled out all the stops to MAKE it happen.

It being a 1 day sale really doesn't matter, because the price is here, and we'll see it again before the holiday season is over.

Click on the Acer Computer ad, and five big sales for Friday appear. The last of the five is Toshiba's HD-A2 HD DVD player for $98.87.

Also listed are some HD DVDs for $14.96 - 12 Monkeys, Big Lebowski, and Blood Diamond.

Sale begins Friday, Nov. 2, at 8 am.

This is INSANE!!!

I checked the link, and all 4 of the Super Walmarts within 5 mile radius of my address, have them "available."

I just can't imagine that this would be a "one off" event...this is Walmart either saying, let's sell a s**t load of HD stuff this holiday and this is how we do it...and they might have something similar on the actual day with Blu-Ray...
Or, this is Walmart picking a side and stating that we are going to do what we did with DVD in the past...let's clear some aisles for HD-DVD's...

I wouldn't be suprised to see something similar from Blu-ray, not at that price point but perhaps much cheaper than $400 bucks...
I'm just not sure Walmart would pay that kind of money to promote Toshiba HD-DVD one week only to confuse their customer base by promoting a non-compatible competitor a couple of weeks later...

I called a local WalMart and they have pulled all their HD-A2's off the floor and have 20 more in stock waiting for Friday morning. If the local SuperCenter WM is only getting a shipment of 20 for Friday, it doesn't look like many folks will be going home with them. I was hoping for something like 100+ in stock and ready to go. I'm sure it's different for other parts of the country.
