Personally, as a common sense supporter (HD DVD), I can't wait for the A2 owners (formerly known as J6P), strolls into Best Buy, Target, Circuit City, etc., and tries to buy Spiderman on their Toshiba A2's.
It'll sorta go like this: To their dismay, they'll find that the disc doesn't work in their Toshiba A2! So they walk over to the next aisle to see the machine that Spidey does play in, only to find that the cheapest Blu machine is three times what they paid for their A2! The customer, formerly known as J6P, says to himself, "Oh hell, no! I'm not paying for that!" Then a knowledgeable store clerk eagerly reminds the A2 owner, "Sir/Ma'am, you can purchase the Spidey disc in standard DVD. Yes, I know that it won't be in HD, but it will upconvert (the A2 owner remembers this term) in your A2 and will look quite nice on your TV." The A2 owner appreciates that fact that he doesn't have to abandon his/her extensive SD collection through upconversion, and realizes that he/she now has the best of both worlds without breaking the bank...
Tune in next week for the episode of "Wow, these HD DVD movies are just a $1.00 more than my Standard Def movies!"
This short was brought to you in DTS.
Lights dimmed, curtain closes.
P.S. If Sony/BDA had any sense, they'd be extolling the virtues of Dual Formats Players right now.
