I went to HHgregg this morning. Got there 3 minutes before they opened, line around the building. When they opened the doors, everyone got in pretty quickly. I went to the TV area and got a voucher for the A3 as they were not on the floor. I paid and walked out. Took all of 10 minutes. $159 and the two movies plus the free 5 rebate.

I was going to do the amazon deal but didn't want to wait for 4 - 5 weeks.

Thanks to the forums, I just got $39.02 back
I purchased the A3 from Amazon for $199 and the next day it went to $159 with 5 movies and 5 movies from rebate. Well they didnt give me the extra 3 movies, I tried, but just got refunded the difference.

And I didn't know they had a price policy and they don't list it openly on their site.

Thanks AVS!!

I went to HHGreg this morning too and picked up an A3 as well, there were quite a few few people buying them. 159 was too hard to pass up.

I feel like this is a stupid question to ask. But, here goes. Will BB price match Amazon's deal, or is it strictly in-store deals that BB/CC stores will match?

Little evidence yet, but I think the Amazon estimated shipping date is their CYA default estimate for a best selling item. If its in stock when you order it, it will be normal delivery times.

There are reports already of people who bought HD A3s there that have confirmed shipping dates or have already received their player units.... Amazon does seem to have a load of them to sell.

I just got back from my local Target and scored a 22 widescreen monitor for my home office PC.

What madness!

Saw a local news report and got a cell phone call from a friend at my local Sears and I didn't even bother going there. The electronics section over there is mobbed.

My Circuit City near the Target was so full, an hour and a half after opening they were limiting access to the store and there were over a hundred of people in line to get in.

If you are going to a sale , do not dawdle.

Should be a good day for electronics sales.....

I am surprised as well. Now I'm very glad I bought an A-2 and a laptop at Walmart 2 weeks ago. I only stood in line 45 mins. and was the 4th one there--not like the mayhem of today.

I was certain Wally World would have another deal for HD DVD players after their earlier success. And we have all been waiting for increased HD media presence and lower media pricing there. Again nothing.

We have not seen the Venturer players, even though they appear on the Venturer website as being available at WM. We have seen no other Chinese players. Really odd.

I am hoping the Walmart is waiting for more HD sales like two weeks ago, when the focus is more on that, rather than the BF craziness. But at this point I don't feel very confident in predicting anything. We will see.

All of the above could apply to BD also. The $499 PS3 deal with 5 free disks from them (in addition to the mail ins) is hardly a doorbuster. But few people have predicted mass sales of BD players at the kind of discounts we expect for the HD players. I am sure WM was quite miffed at the unwanted publicity of the Fuh Yuan deal earlier this year, but I would hardly expected that to cause them to abandon plans for mass sales where they thought there was money to be made.

Fortunately, unlike in the spring, we won't have to wait long to see how this unfolds. Anything likely to happen will happen within the next 2-3 weeks, max.

Like some others, I cannot find the 10 free movie page, and I'm not a prime shipping member. I also see no HD-A3 for $199 anymore - it's $179 and no mention of 10 free movies. It seems some folks have done this in the last hr, so I must still be missing something...

I was having the same problem even after I "proceeded" to checkout. I called them and I was charged the correct amount although it never showed it while I was checking out and paying.

Yes, XA2 is back in stock for $450. Great deal!

I followed these directions and it worked perfectly:

Not sure if that's really the problem you were having, but I know other people are a bit confused about this.

For those of you who are near a Bernie's Electronics store I was there this morning to get in on the A3 for $99 deal and though they ran out pretty quickly they are substituting the A30 for $199. I have not seen this unit at this price anywhere. The sale is only good from 8am to noon today.

Well... since these instructions were sufficiently ambiguous that they didn't work for me before, they're still not working with the addition of a new link to them. I can get the A3 into my cart for $159, but what *precisely* does this mean:
Then go back to the offer for 10 free when you buy it for $199 and you will get the list of DVD's to pick out three.
I see no offer for $199 with 10 free. Searching on "toshiba hd-a3" yields only a $179 price with no free movies and a $189 price with no free movies. Searching with various permutations on hd-a3 + movies + 10 free, etc. yields nothing either.
Sorry to be so obtuse about this.

Just go through the checkout process. Before the last step, you will see a promotion amount - making the total amount for your order $159.

For those having problems finding the promotion, just search HD A3 in the search bar. It pops on as the 1st item.

Good luck - and thanks to you guys. I purchased mine on Tueady for $199, received it Wednesday, watched 2 movies on Thanksgiving and was given my $40 refund today.

OK I just tried it again and it still works. The problem is when you search for the A3 it takes you to the Beach page NOT the Amazon page which is why the price is different and you cannot see the 10 free offer. So you need to get to the Amazon page for the A3. Follow the instructions here: Do not click on show me the price. It will bring up the $169 (now its $179) offer at Beach. Instead click on Toshiba HD A3 line. Again do not click on show me the price. Instead look to the right where it says more buying choices and click buy under Amazon (there is no price listed here at all). You will see in your cart the A3 for $159.98. When in the cart click on the item, it will take you to a the original page for the A3. A copy of it is below. You can see the price is $159.98 and several paragraphs below is the section on 10 free and a player for 199. Click on that and the DVD choices will appear. You select three and they will appear in your cart and the price will be adjusted on the first page. Hope this is clearer to those having difficulty.

Went to Wal-Mart last night (Thursday night) and the clerk told me that they were going to have some "secret" stuff on sale that wasn't listed in their flyer. So at 4:30am this morning the wife was at Wal-Mart and I was at Best Buy. NOTHING. Wal-Mart still has the A3 for $199 and so does Best Buy. Waste of time. I'm going back to bed and heading to Costco to pick one up for $179. (it's the D3 which is the same as the A3 but an HDMI cable is included - plus you get 2 free HD-DVD's)

EDIT: Costco has just dropped their price on the D3 to $159 and it now includes 5 movies. I'm hoping that this isn't just an online only deal and that you can pick one up in the store. We'll see. (they open at 10:00am and I'm going to be there)

Was lucky enough to order 2 A3's at amazon.com for $159 a piece, one for mom and one for dad. Was also able to secure the 10 free HD-DVD's per player as well. Note that they let you pick 3, you get 2 in the player's box, then you send away via a mail form for 5 more.

So, just got 20 HD-DVD movies, 2 HD-A3's for $319.00 with super saving shipping, which is still cheaper than the cheapest BD player. Forgot to mention though, the hardware won't get to me before Christmas it would seem.

Stoked.

I think it has the 2 in-box (300, Bourne Identity) and applies to the mail-in 5 free. I thought at first that it came with 5 instant freebies!

as far as the AMAZON deal gos type in their search box hd-a3 when the new screen comes up on the right side you should see used and new from 159 the 159 deal is from amazon put it in your cart while it is in your cart press it again and it will take you to the deal that amazon is offering follow instructions this is around about way that you can do it IF YOU DO NOT DO IT THIS WAY YOU WILL END UP BUYING ONE FROM THEIR PARTNERS WHO HAVE IT IN STOCK AT THIS TIME AND PAY THEIR PRICE NOT AMAZONS PRICE

I hope for those of you buying a second HD DVD player or more than 1 at a time - you are NOT using the same address nor the same CC.

Here is the rebate form. It has the same disclaimer that the others have had. Blow up the fine print:

"Limited to one family, house hold, address."

My friend ordered his hd a3 from amazon on Sunday and received on Wed. He went for the 10 free deal. When he checked the invoice, amazon charged his credit card 144.94 with a special promo notation. Checked their credit card and it was charged 144.94. 10 discs, free shipping, and no tax, no bf lines; can't beat that deal.

Please give us an update when you get back. I just bought a D3 two days ago with two movies in box and 5 free by mail. If the $159 is good for today I will bring my box with me to return it then buy another one to save $20. Too bad Costco doesn't price match their own.
