I did the Amazon deal for $159 with the 10 movies. 2 movies come in the box, you pick 3, and then the 5 via mail in form. When I was done with the transaction, it said $159 for everyting, and it said the 3 movies I chose would ship first, and the HD-A3 would ship later. Here is my question:

I got an email from Amazon telling me the three movies shipped. I ordered Hot Fuzz, The Departed and The Last Starfighter. They charged my card $51.46. The thing is, it shows that the HD-A3 will ship later, and it has the price at $159. For some reason, I have a funny feeling that they are going to charge me more than $108.52 when they ship the player. Even though the grand total when I first ordered was $159.98, I just think something is screwy with this. Anybody else already get their first 3 movies shipped? We're you charged $51.46?

I guess everything will work out, but for some reason I'm skeptical.

I think you're a few weeks too late, the Walmart $99 price was a "pre-Black Friday" deal held on November 2nd-- very, very few A2s have been on sale for $99 since then.

AFAIK, the only true Black Friday (11/23) sales were on A3 models in the $149-$169 range. The A2 supply is mostly dried up after the frenzy at the beginning of the month, I doubt you'd see them in an ad or anywhere comparable for a price match.

Send them an inquiry email and I'm sure their customer service will resolve it to your satisfaction. It happened to me once and they took care of it in less than a day.

Cheers,
TP.

HD-DVDS FOR $9.83 each!

Hey, I don't know if anyone realizes this, but as was already posted here earlier... Amazon is doing a B2G1F deal on a long list of HD-DVDs. On that list they have 3 different multipacks that have 4 movies in each pack. If you were to buy all 3 packs, paying for two of them and getting the third free, then the price per movie is something like $9.83. So you can get 12 HD-DVDs for $9.83 each. Of course you would have to like all 12 movies, or at least most of them. The ones you don't want you could trade away or sell.
HAPPY BUYING!

Don't worry. Amazon charges your credit card for each shipment. It has nothing to do with price you paid. So even though you technically are paying for the A3 and not the DVD's when they ship the DVD's separately they charge you. When they ship the A3 your credit card will be charged for the balance ($108).

You can always cancel an order before it ships. So this is the method that prevents anyone from receiving the "free" dvds, then turning around and cancelling the order for the dvd player before it ships. That would result in free dvds. Not good for Amazon.

I was messing with the shipping on my order from amazon for the HD-DVD player and suddenly (even though I changed it back to free shipping) I'm now being charged for one of the HD-DVDs...

though now my player is set to mail on the 11th instead of the 27th

Amazon can be really strange at times, guess I better email them though

It is almost fun checking to see what amazon will change the price to next. Went from $177 and change last night to $179.98 now. So if I remember correctly starting Wednesday it went from $199 to $187 to $179 to $159 back up to $177 and now to $179 again.

Whoops. Just noticed that the three free is gone now too.

Too bad you didn't get an A3 two days ago on Amazon, it was $159, now it's up to $189 today. Free Shipping and 10 HD DVDs too.

edit: looks like that promotion has now ended.

The A2s are mostly gone now, so other than the odd clearance or open box unit, I doubt you will see any organized sales on them.

I don't think any retailers have sufficient stock on what is now a discontinued model (A2) to promote a sale. That's why all the sales are on the A3.

So I guess I just hold on to the A2 for at least another 29 days and wait for either it or an A3 to go on sale again. Thanks guys!

Quite honestly, I think I'm going to stick to sd for awhile. Its hard for me to justify what are essentially double or triple dips on movies I have in SD. Not that HD isn't wonderful, but its also irritating to only be able to get half of the HD releases without going blu as well.

If this doesn't bother you, then have at it.

The Costco in Frederick, Maryland still has FIVE A2's (with the free HDMI cable) on sale at $169. If anyone is in the DC Metro area, this is a great deal. These things are getting rare as hen's teeth nationwide. If you want the A2 for its DTS toslink, here's one place you can still find one at a decent price.

I just checked Amazon.com at 4:27pm EST on Sunday, November 25, and it's currently $179.98.

Let me ask the people in here something (especially Amazon.com shoppers).

I missed out on when the Toshiba HD-A3 was $159.98. I paid $199.00 and on two separate occasions received refunds from Amazon so that my current price is $177.13. Do you think, that if I contact Amazon and ask them to adjust my price even lower...because at one time it was $159.98, despite it not currently being that price...I would stand a chance at yet another price adjustment?

I don't know if you have to contact them when it's currently at the price you want to have your purchase adjusted to, or if...within 30 Days...you can ask them to adjust it to ANY price that it has been at in the past.

I originally purchased mine at $199. When the player shipped, I was charged $140.51; when the movies shipped, I was charged an additional 58.49. I called them when the price was down to $159.98, and was credited $39.02. So, a total of three transactions, for a total price of $159.98.

people, it has been stated before in this thread, but Amazon charges every time they ship you something. so if they partial ship your stuff they apply a charge each time. BUT, it will only add up to the final purchase price you received at checkout. that is all. later.

BestBuy has the HD-A30 at $399 in both Canada and the U.S. now. There are better deals out there but if you buy in Canada then you get a full warranty and you also get to take advantage of the 5 free mail in movies.

DataVision might ship to Canada. $100 cheaper, no local warranty and no free movies. If UPS ships it and dings you their usual excessive brokerage fee then you won't be saving too much.

Amazon, even as of recent past...has been having very fishy problems with 3rd party vendors for quite some time. You are taking a risk even adding items to your cart in their online store these days if you are buying any items that are through a 3rd party vendor. Last time, it took me over a month to get it straight. They are billing people for orders that they cancel and/or that do not ship. Sometimes..sending it 20 days or more after you entered the information into your cart then deleted it. They then..backdate your account information to show it shipped and the order was filled.

Happend to both me and my wife. It's a complete mess. And don't EVEN try to call Amazon CS (in India). They have not one clue what you are actually saying. And if they do...they are simply lieing through their teeth about what they are doing. I spent a month trying to straighten it out and every single CS rep I spoke with..including supervisor/manager, etc., lied through their teeth to me.

I've known people who have also told me..that they simply added something to their cart...changed their mind..deleted from the cart before checking out and a month later they recieve the item and are billed for it. They go back to check their order/account records..and the item has been added to their purchased items shown as shipped and backdated. Then..you get the dosey-doe through india and if it's a small item..most people give up and just pay for it and keep the item rather than go through a month of hell over it. It's scam...imho.

It doesn't surprise me to hear your invoice says one thing (better take a screen shot of that thing...AND save the email.) and what they are billing is another. And in the end..amazon CS is going to tell you...its not their responsiblity..AND your account/billing information will be backdated to change it to reflect the final shipping price. Trust me on that. I believe that's called a "scam".

Just curious ...

do you guys have to pay sales tax when you buy from Amazon?

I live in Seattle so I have to pay about 8.8% sales tax on everything I buy from Amazon (which is why I don't use it very often).

If you live outside Washington State are Amazon purchases sales tax free?
