I can confirm, I just bought a Toshiba HD-A2 for $98.97 at Sears on Nov. 9 (last Friday). I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the price on the Toshiba end cap, because I had just checked the price on the Sears website a day before!

The funny thing is, I had been aimlessly driving around town all depressed because I had missed the Wal-Mart deal, and then I just decided to browse though Sears at the mall by chance.

I wonder if this is a local deal, and not available at all Sears?

Did this deal have an ending date...or is it until all A2's are gone? I wouldn't mind picking one up myself for $98. Maybe I'll make the rounds tomorrow morning.

I'm surprised it's not being more heavily advertised. This is big news if all the Sears' are running the A2's for this price. I take it this is in-store only?

Nevermind, the A2 isn't even listed on the Sears website so it must be in store only.

I bought mine at Sears at the Tucson Mall, Tucson, AZ.

The only line that looked like it had a SKU on my receipt was this:

2057 57607 TOS DVDHD, SAL 98.97T

After reading this, I just drove down to my local Sears at the mall. No HD-A2 anywhere and only one HD-A3 for $279. I just bought one off ebay anyway, but I could have given this one away as a gift for $99.

This kind of good fortune doesn't happen in major metropolitan areas like the Bay Area or SoCal.

Yes, it does. I went to Sears and I bought a new refrigerator during the VIP sale. They did have an HD-A2 for $98, but it was the display model and may not come with the remote control (or the box needed for the five free movies). Since I just bought one at Circuit City, I did not buy that one. My trip to Sears was pleasant on Sunday night!

I bought the display model A2 at a Bay Area Sears store on Saturday for $84 with the remote but no other packaging. A friend of mine bought one at another Bay Area Sears on Sunday for $69 because they didn't have the remote but, he new that I had one he could use for programming. It may be worth checking your local Sears store because the display at the store where my friend purchased his still read $299 but it is in the Sears computer at $98.97 because the promo runs until 11/17. The salesperson didn't even realize it until he was asked to check.

BTW- I took the unit home, set it up, upgraded the firmware and it seems to work just fine so far.

I saw a bunch of display model A2s at circuitcity yesterday. I was gonna ask the manager how much he's gonna sell them to me when I saw the sticker that says open box as of 11/2006. Yikes. The other unit had a 3/2007 OB sticker.

Did you go in Sears at Southland mall? It will save me a trip there.

A $98 HD-A2 w/o the remote is not a great deal to me. I consider the remote pretty important.

I was really speaking about new in box items, not open box/demo with missing parts.

I went to the Sunvalley mall in Concord.

I got an A2 last Thursday at the Sears in Winston-Salem NC. It was the last one; no box and no remote. They did have the manuel. Store manager sold it to me for $75. Have a replacement remote on order for $42 shipped. Not as good as $98 but still at my price point. Called Toshiba about the 5 free movies because I don't have the UPS code from the box. CSR gave me a different address to send my paperwork to and told me to write a letter of explanation. Should know in three months whether that is sufficient.
