Just purchased an HD DVD player back on Oct. 29th and have been pretty satisfied so far. However, I'm just wondering how prevalent these error codes are in the players. Are these just defective models? So far my player has worked great. I'm just wondering if the technology is not quite there yet even on 3rd generation players.

The 2nd gen. models had freezing problems with early FW revs. By FW 2.0, most of the freezing problems were corrected.

Not since version 2.0 on my 3 players. I had a couple of SD DVDs that were not recognized on any of my 3 second gen players as a DVDs until 2.0 Firmware. Other than that zero erros with anything/They have played bunches of Netflix HD.. purchased SD... and SD DVD... literally hundreds of viewings and zero errors. Something about the way those 2 SD DVDs were mastered the Toshes did not like until V2.0.

I have a Cyndi Lauper DVD that neither an Oppo 981, or Sony NC85H would play without the decode breaking up and the Toshibas HD players all played it fine. It was a terribly noisy transfer and really looked bad over all. I really like the material on there.. With the latest 2.7 on the XA2 it looks like a totally different transfer.. amazed at the difference.

Just another blank signature.

I am really close to getting an XA-2 for christmas but these error posts have me extremely worried

Do you guys think I should still pull the trigger on the X-A2?

By the way is the X-A2 Toshiba's best HD-DVD player?

3rd gen used a new HDDVDROM drive that needed some tweaking, it looks like they got the kinks out with the new 1.3 firmware.

IMO, I think the A35 is the best player. Its a less complex design than the XA2 but it gets the job done just as good.

Vote with your wallet. Don't buy Cinavia-infected Blu-ray Discs! Why pay a premium for pseudo-lossless audio damaged by an intrusive watermark in the audible spectrum?

I wouldnt worry, remember that on internet forums there is a high percentage of posts that are related to issues people have since the forums are here for that sort of thing. There are thousands ansd thousands of happy owners that you probably dont hear about. Go for it, you'll love the player!

Yes, the XA2 is VERY highly regarded as an HD DVD player and has arguably the best upconversion performance as well.

No errors or unreadable disks yet on my A3.

In my case, hooking up with Mr. Chocolate and Mr. Marshmallow could be fatal.

I don't know how many movies you've bought but It seems todepends movie to movie. I didn't know about these error code things until it happened to me while Watching Matrix Reloaded. Then I searched the web and found that lots of other people were having the same problem with Matrix reloaded as well. I've read about people having these problems with other movies as well but I don't own any of them.

I have an A1, and an A2, and the ONLY time I EVER get an error # message was when I had the ethernet setup incorrectly when trying to DL an update via Ethernet Port.
The ONLY other Error I ever got with them, was my A1 not recognizing HD DVDS(No Disc), which it needed repair for.

I don't think those Error #'s are THAT prevalent, although it obviously HAS happened to some folks.
