For those not seeing it via ethernet right now, FYI it probably won't be available by ethernet to everyone right away. Of course, this post will probably be buried and lost under posts saying people can't get it by ethernet.

Can we please keep this thread to just discussing the new firmware, it's fixes, and any problems it produces? No one in this thread is going to care whether or not you can update, there is another thread for that:

I just updated my A20 (A2 is getting updated now).

The 1080p60 bug is still not fixed. The forced 1080p24 that affects maybe 0.1% of all HD DVD users gets a sticky, but A20/A30/A35 users get no love.

Xa2 updated. I had to download and burn an iso, the live update wasn't posted yet.

No problems, but in a few quick tests, it seems to have fixed the PCM/bitstream "who knows which mode I'll get" problem I had.

That is good news! I also am having this annoying issue with 2.7. Hope 2.8 does indeed fix this.

Time for me to ask you a question??

Does the new firmware offer a new menu item to select PCM or bitstream?? Or what does it do??

Does the player stay codefree after upgrading from 2.7 to 2.8 (presuming you have used the 2.5 codefree firmware)?

There's still simply auto, PCM or downsampled PCM under HDMI. I use Auto here. For the SPDIF, there's still PCM and bitstream. I have this on bitstream.

I set the 1080p mode to Auto, I'll try some 30fps rock videos tonight when I have time to see if it works.

I did the update on my A2 and checked the brightness pattern on HD DVE. Still does not pass BTB over HDMI-DVI like it does over component on my setup. I'll look more into it later tonight.

Does anyone know if this fixed the menu on standard DVD's? I noticed on some titles that you could not see the highlighter on any of the options on the menu such as Play, Subtitles, etc (if that makes sense). You basically had to guess what you were doing.

Also, what does this forced 1080p/24 mean? I have a Samsung 4661 1080p set, but I know for a fact that its not 1080p/24 capable TV. I do, however, have the option set at 1080p/24 and I don't notice any jutter. If I turned on the forced mode or whatever, will it help or what? Someone please explain. Sorry if this sounds confusing.

The update doesn't really seem to specific on what it fixed.
Seems like a general patch.
I'll keep v2.5 on my A20 until I have issues or a FW update is released with more specific details on actual improvements that can be verified after the update.

I guess I'm not seeing the real advantages of getting the update for my A2. I don't ever use the web-enabled content and (knock on wood) haven't had any problems with discs playing.
