I requested my 51g thread be closed since it was getting off topic.

So, I got a reply from Toshiba today. I sent them an email last night.

I just want to bring HAPPINESS, JOY, and PEACE to all current HDDVD owners.

Here it is, fasten your seatbelts!!!

Hi. I currenlty have HD-A2 which I bought in November 2007. I upgraded the firmware last night to version 2.8 and everything went well. Anyways, I heard about the Triple Layer 51gig. Would my HD-A2 be able to read this disc or do I need to buy a new HDDVD player? Thanks, Ronneil

BAM!!! MidnightWatcher, you must be one of Toshiba's technical support!!! You are the man!!!

So guys, let's rejoice!!!!!!!!!!

Now, if Toshiba were to release these bad boys to the remaining studios, then we could see a shift of momentum i.e. Cheapers players, more data storage, so that would leave software sales to be reduced and the tables will be turned!

Thank you v1rtu0s1ty! You've done us all a real service!

Not speculation, but fact from the horses mouth, all because you had enough insight to ask the right question!

Go ahead Toshiba, Knock HD up a notch, BAM!

CSR reps have been known to be wrong before, but with 1 million+ players sold its obvious introducing an incompatible disc now would be foolish. However, I still think it will be official when the first movie is out and playing on current hardware.

Toshiba technical support is the one that replied to me and not from a forum. So it is true! And I'm also not making up this story. I don't want to ruin what I have started in this forum. I'm not like someone who creates a new account with 2 or 3 posts.

Let's just rejoice!!!

Could this be the reason why Warner wanted to have some of the HDDVD release be delayed? Now, this is just my guess.

Please guys, no one should bash on my thread. This is a nice UPDATE for us HDDVD owners!!! Or else, I'm going to tell Ken again.

Thanks! Again, let's rejoice!!!

LOTR-EE's would fit quite nicely now, one movie per disc... if "someone" would come to their senses, that is.

Although, I must say, my butt would get awfully sore after close to four hours on the couch. There's still something to be said for a "forced" intermission.

Seriously, I'd be happy with HDDVD for only the Universal (NBC, SciFi, USA) and Viacom (CBS, Showtime) properties in HD at this point.. I can def. wait for the $99 Bluray 2.0 player (it'll be awhile, I'm not holding my breath!!)

How is an email from Toshiba's tech support a confirmation? If you hear the news from them first rather than from some other sources, then most likely is because the tech support person doesn't know what he's talking about.

Please do not get this thread closed.

And great work on getting a concise answer about the triple layer compatibility.

Toshiba is supporting us very well indeed.

It will get locked once this thread becomes dirty. I've already told the moderator about it. He'll decide if it needs to be.

But yeah, it's really a good news for us!!!

How can anyone take this seriously? This comes from an email and not a Toshiba press release.

Does anyone really think that if they did indeed get TL51 discs working on current players there wouldnt be a huge press release announcing it.

Blurays: 115
HD-DVD: 12- YES I will be keeping them so I can own a piece of history

If you don't believe it, then just keep stepping, dude! If you aren't encouraged about it or indifferent, find some Blu-ray hearsay to take as fact in another thread. Simple!!

From Toshiba, yes. What's the difference?

Why would they? It was always intended to be working on every player.
Remember, it's not in amateur, hobby electronics or like Blu-Ray where players, movies and standards are randomly compatible with each other..

Besides there isn't any movie on triple layer disc, there's nothing to brag about just yet.

So will it work on the first generation players?

If not how many players are in the wild and I would hope that toshiba would do something to compensate us with the A1 or the XA1.

Why does the information cause you to get angry? You seem quite defensive.

This would be great obviously.
Just ensure no glitches once released.

Twin Discs as standard, with price drop.

And them titles!

You know what, I've never said anything bad about BD. Not even once. Even if I only have the A2 right now, I even have praised BD. Go search for it to prove that I am telling the truth.

Here is my question. Honestly, I really don't get. I've been flipping my head, my house but I still don't get why BD guys don't want us to have a 51g disc. Is it a threat to BD? If not, then BD guys, just tell us kudos that we are getting this.

Here is another thing I've noticed in many forums. I noticed that BD people were bashing on hddvd because it only had 30g or so. Now, soon, TL51g will come out and I have noticed that BD people are saying it's too late. What's up with this? I really don't get it.

Your wasting your time explaining anything to them. This is good news for us and who cares what they think. Hopefully we'll be seeing these soon!

If true, this is great news. This means more HD special features, all on 1 disc. I have no problem with 2, but would like it all on 1.
