There's no way you got DTS out of an HD DVD using optical over the A3. The A3 only puts out DD @ 640kbs over optical from HD DVD. Unless you were viewing (1) An SD DVD with a DTS soundtrack or (2) an HD DVD with a DTS-HD soundtrack (there's only one non-import - Pan's Labyrinth), then the output was most definitely DD.

Like it was said, the HD-A3 and A30 cannot output DD+, DolbyTrueHD or DTS HD and DTS MA. Those players don't support HDMI v. 1.3 and it is needed. I own a Duo HD Samsung BD-UP5000 an all HD DVD HD soundtrack are send to my receiver. The HD-A30 the output is only PCM but you don't loose from DD+ or DolbyTrue HD as the player can decode them and send them uncompressed through PCM 5.1.
