On my a 35 the 2.0 firmware worked the best.I never had a problem with 1.3

On the disk that do not play now, eject the disc and press play a second time. Sometimes it will read.

I never had much luck with Toshiba sending me a updated disc. I requested it about five times and got it once. I am in Canada so perhaps it is better in the US.

You can download the update through the internet direct or you can save it to your hard drive on the computer and burn it with this program on to a cd with this burner.

The biggest complaint about 2.0 was the jaggies on the tranformer dvd you will have to go back and read the selections in this posting to get the individual members comments.

At present I am using the 2.0 I believe there was an update in between and my player was awful with that update.

1.3 was the factory installed firmware for the A 35 and my friend has never changed it and had no playability problems at all.

One of the hardest discs to play was Bourne Ultimatum number 3 in the series. I contacted Universal Canada and they replaced my disc and I had no problems.
It was sad to see the demise of HD DVD I know I certainly enjoyed it. The up converts are very good along the HD discs

For my A3 2.0 works best. I had a freezing on some movies @ about 1:30 to the movie and then I updated to 2.0 and there is no more freezing...

If I have a display that accepts 1080p/24 and the HD-A30, which would be the best firmware? From what it seems it would be v1.3.

If anyone has a similar setup would you please let me know which firmware you are using that works best for you.

Thanks.

How about changing subject of this thread? HD-A3 doesn't have 1080p/24 capabilitiy so there is no reason why owners of HD-A3 shouldn't upgrade to firmware 3.0.

All I want is a firmware to come out for the A35 that does 1080p/24 with NO jaggies; and is a little more acceptable as far as playing discs goes. I have had multiple instances of discs that are spotless, freezing beyond repair. To the point where everytime I watch a new movie that I havent watched on this player before, I am a little worried. That I won't be able to get through the whole thing.

One question I have is... does the 2.0 firmware perform any better as far as movies not skipping/freezing? I am almost willing to sacrifice the jaggies on paramount discs if this is true.

I can understand your frustration. Personally, despite the jaggies issue with 1080/24p AVC-encoded discs, I find 3.0 to be more stable, functionally speaking, than 2.0--haven't had a single freeze up, and I've played dozens of discs since the update. For the time being I just simply revert to 1080/60i (or 1080/60p) for AVC HD discs and SD DVD, as the 1080/24p jaggies are still present in 3.0.

For the record, a couple of days ago I played "Transformers", with the A35 set to 24p and firmware 3.0. The movie played flawlessly and for what it's worth I didn't see any image problems. I enjoyed the show. Maybe it's just on test disks, you just wind up looking for problems and find them.

The problem is definitely there--and not just on test discs.

Agreed, my point was sometimes, just watch the movie and enjoy it. I had no stoppages (which would definitely take you out of the movie) and relaxed and enjoyed the show. I hope 3.1 will fix it all, someday.

I hear ya. I'm with you in the hope that it'll all get sorted out eventually.
