I cross posted this in the HTIB thread, but realized it would probably get more attention here.

Okay this may sound like a wierd question but I can't figure out why its happening.

Slight history. I have the HD-DVD version of Transformers. I remember, when seeing in the theater and when I watched the movie (played on Toshiba A2) connected to my HDTV via component video and 2 channel audio, utlizing just the TVs speakers (no surround) that you clearly here the trademark "Transformer Sound" when Optimus Prime first transforms for the hero and heroine. You hear again through out the movie when other bots transform. You know the three tone digital progression that you always heard in the cartoons.....vrr vrr vrr...or something.

Okay now the issue: I now have the HD-DVD player connect to the Onkyo HT-SR800 via optical and I chose a variey of listening modes but can not for the life of me hear that "Transformer Sound". I can't here it when the system plays 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1. Its just not there. As far as I can tell all other sounds/audio/dialog/effects are there.

Now its one thing if it was in the theaters but not on the DVD as it could have been a conversion issue, but I clearly heard it on my 2 channel television.

Any one have any idea why this might be happening or do you think I am just loosing my mind . I'm at a loss.

Thank you.

The only time I remember hearing the "classic transforming sound" in the movies or on HDDVD was at the beginning when that helicopter 'bot transformed. I don't remember hearing it in other scenes. I could be wrong though :P

Yeah its strewn around a bunch. Not everytime, but sometimes its elongated and other its comes out quick.

I replay it tonight and see if I hear it at the beginning. Although I am 98% sure it is played when Optimus transforms.

The "transforming" sound was used on Optimus in the theatrical trailer, not the actual film.

The "classic" sound effect was used in the trailer during Prime's transformation. I don't remember it being used in the movie during that particular scene.

*edit* looks like fitprod beat me to it.

I don't remember that ever happening. Saw it twice at the theater.

I also remember hearing it during the helicopter transform in the very beginning, and I thought "awesome". But then they never used it again.
Gee, thanks, Michael Bay!

dellhop, the only time I've heard the 'sound' in the place you mention is on one of the trailers. I remember geeking out and playing it a zillion times, and I was disappointed that it wasn't used in that spot during the movie. Still love this dopey flick though.

Thanks all for responding. Those that mentioned it happening during the helicopter scene were absolutely correct. I played it last night and hear it clear as day. I must have fixated on the trailer. Guess I am going a little crazy.

I can't remember hearing Starscream yelling at the end of the theatrical. And since I just finished my HT and Transformers is the best HD-DVD I have for testing out the rig I have been watching the beginning, the freeway scene and the end over and over again. Not many of the pictures in my house are straight anymore

Thanks again everyone.

Still my most entertaining HDDVD to watch over & over. Unfortunately, Mr. Awesome - Michael Bay - refused to include a TrueHD track or else it would be reference material for sure.

Panasonic TC-P60ST60 + Sony STR-DG810 + LG BH200 + JBL L830's x2 + JBL LC1 + JBL Loft40 x 2 + Polk PSW10 + Harmony One

Wasn't his decision. None of paramount titles has lossless. He was pretty vocal about which format was better. Other than few early Warner titles pretty much every single blu ray has lossless.

Except Top Gun and Hot Rod.

That's not even close to being correct. There are a significant number of Warner, Paramount, Lionsgate, and independent studio (Magnolia, etc.) releases on Blu-ray without lossless audio. Sony, Disney, and Fox have been consistent in this regard, but no one else has.

Corrected for accuracy.
