Hey can someone do me a quick favor and take a picture of side by side of UK hd dvd and U.S. hd dvd. Just curious how big a difference the cases are compared to U.S.

Thanks!

and what does dvd.co.uk use: Euro or GBP?

1. Do you own either the Motorhead or U.F.O. concert HD DVDs? I think they are the same size as those, judging from pictures. I'll edit this to include someone else's picture from the collection's thread.

Here's a pic from user "Nissen":

2. GBP

I agree! I wish I owned many imports instead of the domestics after seeing the superior artwork on many of them.

The UK case are built much better as well. I really like the raised HD-DVD logo.

Not sure if I agree. They're unnecessarily fatter, taking up more shelf space, and not as clear/see-through as the U.S. cases.

I'm from the UK and can't stand our fatter cases. Very strange that some UK ones come in the fat ones and others come in your US slim one's. I bought two copies of Frighteners (one for a present) and one was slim, the other wasn't.

Find it funny that people from the US prefer our cases and people from the UK prefer your slim cases.

I'm off to start a thread about the very large Japanese ones.

Many imports have fewer extras, if that's important to you.

I think that the fatter cases are a little "nicer" (raised HD DVD logo etc) although the extra shelf space would be nice to have back. I don't care what the case is (well except the Japanese ones which I despise) as long as the movie is there and an excellent transfer. I do find it interesting that you can get either or when ordering imports. I have 2 copies of FF:ROTSS that shipped the same day. One in a fat case and one in a slim case. The only other issue is that custom cover art ir a little weird if you dont have replacement cases as the thicker ones obviously have issues with slim case spacing on customs (although viva elite vs sleevetown vs combo vs etc have the same issue)

Hm. The ones I checked seem to have the same extras (Universal releases). Which ones have less?

Some have less, some have more. The real value in imports is that you can actually get the movie on HD DVD when it is either non released any other way or is BD exclusive

Good example is

Underworld German - Extended Cut but no lossless audio and NO extras
Underworld Dutch - Standard version lots of extras noo lossless
Underworld Japanese - Standard Version Fewer extras but TrueHD sountrack
(yes I own all 3 versions)

Brothers Grimm is the same way (to a lesser extent)

Both of these are also BD exclusive in the US (and have been released on BD) but the HD DVD versions are wonderful

Does anyone make slim cases (half the size of the US HD-DVD cases)? There's never any inserts so it's just taking up a lot of space. I must have bought over 200 slim cases for DVDs (space problem, can you guess?) Now I'd like to get slim cases in blue BD and red HD.

I have never seen a slim HD or BD case (well slimmer than the standard ones) anywhere. Many of the imports actually do have inserts BTW
