I too liked the image quality, and it's funny, I saved the same image to my bucket account.

I don't know if the quality difference is due to the format, or to the country difference. Has anyone any idea?

since the U.S. Blu-ray looks identical to the U.S. HD DVD, i think we can conclude that the quality difference you're referring to is not due to the format.

Thanks for the answer. In that case, I find it very odd that the branch of Warner used a different master/transfer than the US branch. Who knows what happened...?

Amazon has this movie on sale for $8 right now.

Is it worth picking up? This is the Blu-ray version.

If you like the Duke or good Westerns (the thinking man's type, not the 'shoot first ask questions later' type) absolutely it's worth it for $8. Both the Blu-ray and HD-DVD have identical high-def transfers and this picture is fondly remembered for its widescreen cinematography.

I just watched it and it has a lot of ringing throughout. It's not bad ringing, but it's still there. Overall it looks very good, and the story is strong enough that I was able to disregard the acting style of that time period (never saw it before). For $8 it was worth it.

I noticed in that screen grab from DavinLeeds, the audio said 64 kbps. When I was watching it, it was mono at 192kbps. Wonder if it was because it's blu-ray or perhaps an error from PS3...
