That sounds worth looking at. Guess it's time to take a look at their BD catalog and see what would interest me.

Pretty impressed with this hope they do indeed offer a upgrade for SD (DVD). Sent in the covers 3 days later got a note, two days later I get tracking ships I have them the next day. I guess living close to the site in Michigan helps.

They already have.

But it's kind of a weak list, to say the least, at this time anyway.

Finally doing my Red 2 Blu today. I didn't do all my WB titles, as some of them were purchases when Tower was closing and when stores were fire selling HD DVDs. Those are ones I'll probably only watch one or two more times and they will then sit on the shelf. But for the "can't miss" movies, even if I unload them on eBay or Half.com for $1 or $2 it will have been worth the upgrade.

I don't see myself using the DVD2blu. I have a lot of comedies and those are movies that don't thing really need an HD transfer. And again, their current collection is week anyway.

My turn around time was two and half weeks from shipping to receiving. Pleasently surprised...I was expecting six to eight weeks. I have one more title to replace and my red to blue migration will be complete. I will probably pick up the last title at Wal-Mart this weekend. The HD-DVD player will come out of the rack and go on eBay with all the movies. I really wanted that format to win back in the day. Oh well, I am 100% Blu now.

Hope my turn around is that quick. They received my covers on Tuesday, so with any hope they will arrive by Christmas.

And thanks for a great idea on getting rid of my HD DVD player. I'm having a hard time selling HD DVDs on Half.com, so selling a bundle might yield me a few bucks. If I put it up many as an upverting DVD player with "bonus HD DVD features" I might get more money!

I received an email that WB received my covers on 12/11 and therefore I expected a quick turn around like the last few posts, but I guess I won't be getting mine before Christmas.

They got mine on the 8th, but still not word of the movies shipping out. Don't hold your breath.

I sent off eight covers to Red2Blu on 12/19. They acknowledged receiving them on 12/30; the discs were shipped on 1/4, and arrived today. So - a bit less than three weeks start to finish. I'm impressed, considering the holidays likely added several days to the process.

BTW - I just noticed that the Red2Blu web site is still active, and appears to still allow orders to be placed. Their program rules claim that the HD-DVD to Blu-ray conversion program would end on 12/31/09. Does anyone know how much longer this will be active?

According to the program rules document on the site (deciphering the legalese), since the program wasn't "terminated" before 12/31/09 it ended on 12/31/09. The deadline for sleeves arriving at WB's processing center(s) for any outstanding orders placed before that date is January 21 (which reminds me I actually have an outstanding order I need to ship labels out for). Anybody feeling lucky enough to try to place a new order?

Excuse me if this has been covered before, but is the Blu-ray verson of 2001 a step down because it has uncompressed PCM instead of TrueHD like the HD-DVD version has?

Not sure why you think PCM is a step down; I know some people prefer it, but...

TrueHD is lossless compression, so the resulting sound would be equivalent to an uncompressed PCM track.

FWIW, the term "uncompressed" when applied to PCM is pure marketing BS. The reality is that it's PCM (Pulse Coded Modulation), which is inherently uncompressed -- that tack on word is totally redundant.

DTS-HD Master and Dolby TrueHD, are both lossless compression formats that typically encode from PCM master tracks. So, basically, when you have PCM encoded on your disk, you are simply bypassing some additional processing, not compromising the sound. In all three formats, the resulting sound is lossless and given identical original PCM masters, the final sound will also be identical (though final recording levels may differ and so comparison requires accurate volume setting to match the levels.)

Wonder why 'Ucompressed PCM' titles are AQ rated lower then ones that have TrueHD & DTS-MA in the blu-ray forum?

No comparison between codecs (or PCM) is valid unless the samples are sourced from the same audio master and accurately level matched during playback (also turning off such audio modifying functions as dialog normalization). The remaining qualifier would be that the digital to analog decoding chain is consistent. For example, DTS-HD Master decoded at the player and output via player analog jacks (then to the receiver) doesn't necessarily sound the same as the identical tracks bitstreamed to a receiver via HDMI and decoded there.

Accurately comparing two lossless tracks from the same disc title isn't trivial, and such discs are relatively rare. Comparing tracks between different titles is impossible, but some people try to do that anyway. That's like comparing red and green and saying which is the better color.

I went to the WB Red2Blu site yesterday morning, completed what was required, mailed it and emailed customer service. Customer service emailed me back and told me the program is still available.

Is there still a limit on number of titles you can do (per address)? I remember reading it there and not bothering. I have well over the 35 or so limit they had listed. If I can't replace them all, I don't have much of a point in doing so.

Some of the titles can be picked up now new for $10 or less on Blu-Ray, so you won't be out too much if you "upgrade" them yourself. Also, remember this is for Warner Bros movies only. And, I saw Superman Returns at a Five Below store on Blu-Ray, so you you'd actually be better buying it right from them rather than losing you HD DVD cover.

Going off FMDW's post above and my own experience (I finally got around to shipping labels for an order I placed last year, which arrived on 1/22, and is being processed)...is WB just keeping R2B alive on the D.L. or are they in "We'll pull the plug any minute now, as soon as we remember to do it" mode?

I'd say WB budgetted a specific amount to pay for Red2Blu program, and assumed that it would run out or be very closed by the end of 2009. I guess it wasn't as close as they thought, so WB figured they'd keep it alive longer. Since it's now after the scheduled end date, it'll just be one day it's up, then poof, it's gone.

Got email saying order has been filled and should receive shipment by end of the week. Turn around time was 3 weeks. I use my HD DVD player for playing my SD discs as I have only 20 Red. My Blu count is up to 64 and growing ( and that's not counting 200 SD DVD's), so the library is expanding fast.

Sent my red2blu covers in and they have received them. Now it's just a wait and see how long it takes them to ship my blu's. I scanned all of my covers before I sent them and printed copies to put back in my cases. I still have the images if anyone wants to print replacement cover art for their cases.
