Received the return label from Warner. Nice letter they wrote me.

Part of the letter:
Quote:
Please note that you also need to enclose: (1) a copy of your receipt, (2) a brief note stating the problem and (3) your return address. In the event you do not have a receipt, please identify in your note the store it was purchased from.

Everything is ready to be shipped out. I'll have to stop by a FedEx later today.

Hmm... I'm not too sure what I want to do about my bad HD-DVD discs. I haven't performed any comprehensive testing, but at the very least, I have 3-4 bad discs. Has anyone in Canada tried to get their discs replaced?

I've been slowly replacing my copies with blu-ray versions on my own (bad or not), whenever I find a good sale.

Warner received my HD-DVDs on 01/22 according to the FedEx tracking number.

Hopefully I'll get my replacements soon.

**Update from Warner**
Quote:
Yes I did receive them and have the replacements on order. I should get them next week – as soon as I do, I’ll get those out to you.

So it's most likely going to be a month turnaround time from when I called to when I received my replacements.

So get this -- I received a bill from FedEx on Monday for $43 and change for a bunch of surcharges including shipping and handling. I was pissed so I immediately called the number in the envelope (FedEx Revenue Services at 1-800-622-1147). I explained my situation to the lady I spoke with. I told her I sent back some defective merchandise using a pre-paid label from the manufacturer. She told me the vendor on the account refused to pay the surcharges because they didn't have proof they were supposed to receive my package, therefore they invoiced me. After I hung up with FedEx I immediately contacted the person I spoke to at Warner and left a message. She called me back later and I explained what FedEx told me. She was pretty angry too, (1) at the amount they charged me, and (2) for the fact this happened.

I scanned a copy of the pre-paid label from Warner as well as a copy of the FedEx bill and e-mailed them to her as .pdfs. She said I was not responsible for the bill and it would be taken care of. She also said if I received anything else from FedEx to call her immediately.

The bill is due on February 16 and I would rather get it taken care of sooner rather than later. I DO NOT want to deal with a collection agency.

frown.gif I don't want any headaches.

Anything else I should do to protect myself? Basically I don't want FedEx coming after me.

It has been taken care of. My contact at Warner took care of it. I just called FedEx to confirm and the rep said the invoice has been paid.

Still haven't received my movies though.

Wow man! Sorry its been so long and such a headache! I know many people dont even bother to stroll through this thread anymore but I am following everything you're saying. I have SO many HD DVD's from Warner that I am still in the testing stage! I hope everything gets straightened out for you and please be sure to post up any updates. I will probably be the next person to contact Warner regarding some kind of swap out! Hell, I would even take back HD DVD's as replacements if they have them....

My 5 HD-DVDs arrived at Warner on the 5th of Feb. so, as per Louisville, I may have to wait a month before I get replacements.

Charles0424, I asked Warner if they were willing to provide HD-DVD discs as replacements and the lady said no, as they don't make them anymore and Warner does not have any in stock. How many bad HD-DVDs do you have? I had 30 and Warner told me they would only replace a maximum of 5.

Is there an exhaustive list of bad titles as posted by someone. I've seen ad hoc mentioning, but thought there might be a pretty complete list somewhere. FWIW I cracked open "Casablanca" and it wouldn't play. Pisses me off!

The problem is that not all copies of a particular title are bad. They great bulk of the problems are with Warner titles, so it is best to crack open all your unplayed Warner HD-DVDs and play them through to ensure they are not defective.

I found the absolute best way to check these HD DVDs (all you need is a computer and Xbox 360 add on) and interestingly (as identified), most of my problems are also Warner. I have talked to them, but we decided to wait until I can verify them all and send them in at one time. It takes about 45 minutes on my laptop to run a disc through but you don't have to baby sit it while it works. So far, of my 250 HDs I am up to about 100 with only 8 bad (8%)- not as bad as I feared, but still unacceptable.

And they wonder why people want to backup their disc collections?

On a side note, I am slowly "backing up" my collection, so to speak, by buying the digital rights to what I own through Vudu's Disc tto Digital Program- quality is very close to HD DVD (as I can tell so far) and also has DD+ audio. There is a thread in "Video Download Services" forum. Cost is $2 per disc (although so far, I paid $5 but probably overpaid).

Just having atrocious luck with these the last week as I try to get through all my Warner discs:

Gothika
V for vendetta
Excalibur
The Adventures of Robin Hood

Out of the last 10, I am running 40% bad.

Hi all, will Warner do anything for people without receipts? My god, I rarely keep receipts, and quite a few of these I bought on ebay a few years back. Ive got a bunch of discs with problems , I have 104 HD-DVDs, and 34 of them are Warner. I cant test all these discs, should I just test Warner?

Warner did not require receipts from me. They just wanted to know where I bought the defective titles.
I would definitely focus on Warner titles - the Warner titles manufactured by cinram seem to be the problem ones.

Well, I quickly went thru all my Warner discs, and like 10 out of 35 were bad. Im waiting for delivery of a Toshiba HD-A20 and I will try them all on there. For shits and giggles, I also ran through about 10 combo discs by Universal, and Knocked Up and American Warewolf in London are fried. Im so happy I came across this information, a little late buying an A20 and blu-ray player as a replacement, but its nice to know there probably isnt anything wrong with my up5000.

Is there a way to know which discs are "cinram" with certainty?, or are all warner discs cinram, thanx. Im asking because if its a mixed bag, I will go back and test the cinram discs more thoroughly. Do the other studios have cinram?

Look at the way the inner ring is printed. (I'm too lazy to take a picture right now, but might later if someone asks real nicely wink.gif ) Eagle Vision also used Cinram for their HD-DVDs, and Magnolia used them for a number of theirs but not all. The worst non-Warner titles I've run into are Pat Metheney- The Way Up, One Last Thing, and Enron: Smartest Guys in the Room. Gone through several bad copies of these.

Just received my 5 replacements from Warner this Saturday afternoon. Took about 3 weeks, from the time I delivered my movies to FedEx to when I received my movies. Received a signed letter thanking for my patronage and that Warner is sorry for the trouble I had gone thru. I just wished they would have replaced all of my 30 bad movies, or at least half of them.

Good luck to all.

Started my backup checks on my hd-DVD collection - I was surprised that I only had 20 Warner's titles out of roughly 100 discs. So far I've checked 15 (via an xbox hd-drive and my mac mini) and three have failed - Blood Diamond, A Clockwork Orange, and the original Robin Hood.

I have been through all 93 Warner titiles I own. The list of bad titles for me is as follows:

Phantom of the Opera
Blazing Saddles
Goodfellas
Blood Diamond
Lethal Weapon
Wyatt Earp
Last Samurai
Blade Runner 5 Disc set (only the final cut disc won't play)
Forbidden Planet
V for Vendetta
Excalibur
The Adventures of Robin Hood
Gothika
Ocean's Eleven (12 and 13 play fine)
Space Cowboys

So, that is 15 out of 93 for a 16% fail rate. I have contacted them and they are having me send them in for replacement.

larrimore, I have several of the same ones failing, but some that failed on my samsung bd-up5000 did NOT fail on my Toshiba A20, in fact they played perfectly on the Toshiba. My failed discs on BOTH players are Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Blood Diamond, Superman The Movie, Batman Begins, and Polar Express.
