Firmware update caused DVD player to freeze

I just started "reusing" my older Philips DVD player model 5960/37 and decided to do a new firmware update.. I burned the file onto CD, as instructed, and after seeing message "DVD player was reading file", it suddenly ejected and the whole player is frozen. Nothing works at all. Is there any way of resetting the defaults on this as I cannot get into any menus via remote as again, nothing works. I took off lid and did not see any reset button, as there are none on outside either.

I realize this is an older model, but it sure does play everything you throw at it. Even though I have upgraded to an OPPO Blu Ray player some years ago, I still like this Philips player. Can anyone offer any suggestions via maybe USB?? I can only say it does power on, and Philips is on screen. No other functions work including CD tray eject or remote.

thanks
Greg
