I have the SD of this movie and looks great on my A1. I have this on preorder from Amazon. Anyone actually get this yet and can comment?

I'm really curious myself, especially to see how the Looney Tunes made out.

I received The Adventures of Robin Hood yesterday and tested the first five minutes of it this afternoon. It's just incredible. Great, great transfer, that borders on the unbelievable. I could not imagine this movie could look that detailled and with such warm colours. Naturally, it does show that the movie was not shot yesterday. But it does not show it was shot nearly 70 years ago! I cannot recommend this HD DVD too warmly.

I don't know how you guys get titles before release dates. The guys at Best Buy say they have The Dirty Dozen and Robin Hood but won't sell it to me.

I live in Paris, France and ordered Robin Hood and Dirty Dozen from dvdpacific quite a while ago.
My experience is that, ordering from this site, you get some titles real early (even before their release dates, as you see) and others real late! And you never know in advance, which adds to the fun...

Really looking forward to this. Will the 1.33:1 image be pillar boxed within a 16:9 frame? I've a CRT projector and I'm used to watching the very nice SD version unscaled to 960p on a 4:3 screen.

If you have a couple BBs close to you, try them all.

Here in the dfw area, I have about 5 or 6 within a 20 minute drive or so. The weekend before Troy came out, I drove to 2 of them.

The first one said the same thing you are hearing, it comes out Tuesday and we cant sell it. A few minutes later, I tried one a little further away and voila, they had them all out. I think since they arent new releases (like Superman Returns will be or MI3) they dont realize there is a release date on them.

We need a thread dedicated to posting which stores have them out early (maybe there already is one).

Art,

you might try and send one of your daughters to pick up the new titles. A smile from them might impress the nerdy sales guy more than one of yours

Hot damn! I'm pleased I'm not the only one who loves these old movies. RH is in the wonderful three-strip Technicolor process--never been bettered or even matched since.

Ain't that the truth ! This concept has been tested since the older one has had a dozen warning tickets for speeding, never has gotten a ticket. I've never had a warning ticket in my 36 years of driving.

Just flipped through Adv. of Rh and it is a very, very nice release. For its age, it's a f*cking revalation. it 's obviously got some grain, and quite a few instances of debris on the print , but it really is marvelous. The richness of the color is magnificant , and trust me you can't even begin to believe the depth of color when thinking of the DVD. A real treat for fans of this one, it's right up there with The Searchers, although the scenes I scanned did seem to suffer more from print defects more so than Searchers.

Oh, and for those who were wondering, watching some L. Tunes in real HD is amazing. Both shorts look fantastic and show great things for the future if WB decides to give us future Golden Collections in HD in the future.

Just a small heads-up.

So the Looney Tunes shorts are in HD? The back of the box did not specify witch extras were in HD. If they are in HD, there's no question I'll be picking this title up today.

Yes, the back cover says Special features are partailly in HD, these two shorts seem to be the on HD features, and they kick ass.

What about detail? is it noticeably better than the SD version? Only colors have been mentioned so far...

Of course the detail is better, I just didn't mention because it's a given that that's the case. Depth, color reproduction, blacks, and yes, detail is vastly superior to the DVD. Again though, i haven't had time to watch the whole thing, just flipped through.

trust me, fans of this film will have a milky cream running down their leg, it's that good.

Well, detail has the potential to be better, but it's source dependant as we've seen with many HD DVDs, so it's not a given.

As for color, the SD was great in that respect and I wouldn't expect the HD to be any different - so that would be more a given than the detail I would think.

You are seeing the digital version of the original negatives on this disc so it should look great indeed.

Yes it is, as are the special features I checked out L. Tunes and trailers). When I stated that detail was a given, of course it's source dependant, but who thought RH would be out any other way.

But in all honesty has there been an HD DVD release that has not improved on the detail of the DVD. This is not BR after all, LOL.

Wow! Now I'm all excited! I bought this and a couple others, but like a dummy, when I got home I popped in a rental (Backdraft), and turned my projector off after I finished the movie, totally forgetting to demo the movies I had bought!!

Now I gotta wait a couple hours for my PJ to cool down before firing her up again, and I hate waiting. I'm such a goof! LOL

I can only agree with what has been said so far.
Just amazing.
I never thought i would get to see this movie in this quality.
For a movie from the 30s the quality on this is just out of this world.
INFACT to my eyes it beats the hell out of THE ITALIAN JOB.
Then again that is not hard is it ?

I know this is somewhat off topic, but most projectors should be fine within half an hour from what I've read. What projector do you have?

No, you're right. Most of it has passed, but there's still a bit of lingering paranoia about shorting the life span of lamp by turning it on twice in the span of a few hours. The guys in the <$3500 projector forum are good at scaring the sh*t out of you about such things. LOL

Mainly I was just annoyed at myself for forgetting to check out my newly bought movies while I still had my projector running, since I'm still pretty frugal about only turning on my projector when I'm actually gonna watch a full movie. Now I'm just gonna wait until tomorrow afternoon so that I can turn the sound all the way up too without my neighbors calling the cops on me.
