for $0.99-4.00 for a movie you can't beat the price and quality. IMO

I rip all my movies and store them in my movie server. So far HD-DVD's have all played back smooth.

My First Home Theater

300 Blu-Rays, 150 DVD's loaded in my Movie Server!

Thanks AVS for making me addicted to this hobby!

No worry ,It's just surprised me.40 HD discs It's too much in 2010.

But of course HD-DVD's are very cheap today (especially from ebay) so It's a good decision.

How many HD-DVD's do You have at this moment ?

I'll have the same plan.

I wanna buy 2 hard drives (2* 1TB) because I'm afraid my HD-DVD player will die in the future.

I must rip them because I need my HD collection for a long time. .

Me too.

But I broke my promise.I bought 3 HD-DVD movies in December (Casino,Saw 3;Alice Cooper).

Thanks I do love my collection. I thought I was done with HD DVD when I had 33 titles (12 of them free) but I ended up buying almost 50 more titles. Now I have basically everything I want on HD DVD. Even though I've moved on with BD I don't anticipate buying many more titles on that format. Between DVD, HD DVD and BD I have most of the titles I want to own other then the occasional new release. I could see myself buying as few as six BD titles this year.

I was thinking today about how much I have enjoyed my HD DVD collection. I have no idea how many titles I have but it's a pretty good collection.

This got me thinking even more and I STILL FIND IT FRUSTRATING the movie studios ended up going with Blu-Ray. I have an Oppo 83 as my main Blu-Ray player and as of late I have read many posts of issues with playback and the answer is to turn off BD Live. I think it is great that doing so can help play back a movie but I can't believe this far into Blu-Ray and problems like this still exist and the solution is to turn off a basic feature of the format. I have several other Blu-Ray players as well and everytime I play a disc I wonder if it will work. This is what happens when a format that was not complete won the high def war I suppose. There needs to be a basic coding spec for BD Live so these disc problems stop. They should just scrap BD Live anyway if it causes more issues than the supposed benefit. Of course there is the PS3 which for some reason plays everything but then every other manufacture can't quite get it right.

Anyway I rarely had issues with HD DVD. I am glad I kept my players and media for the format. It's a shame as the format had a head start and everything but the PS3 is what the studios realized would be the key, with such large install base who can blame them. The short lived ride on HD DVD was a lot of fun though. I plan to enjoy the format for many years.

Thanks Richard

They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time it works, every time.

^^^ Agree. The laptop I bought in 2008 (when my previous one died) is a Toshiba Qosmio that can play HD-DVD's precisely so I can get me some (semi)portable high-def entertainment on the go. I now watch more Blu-ray than HD-DVD by virtue of the tsunami of good movies being released for the former, but the latter will always own my heart (and a healthy slice of my viewing time considering it's been a 'dead' format for almost three years now! ).

Not to beat a dead horse (drum)...

I am at 424 HD DVD titles and still watch them . I bought some I never watch, but I pull most of them out often. I'd still buy more, but I never see anything I don't already own.

Living the HT Dream...now in 4D.
