There was a hint dropped in the BR forums about "The Lions Gate Announcement". Does anyone know what it is? Have they gone neutral now?

Where's Oshodi when you need him? :D :D :D :D      :o

Good question, where is Oshodi? I don't recall seeing a post from Oshodi in over a week.

tsd2005 hinted that there's a 50:50 chance that Lionsgate announces going neutral today on that Long Beach panel. I've not heard anything yet about whether they actually did or not.

I cannot think of one LG title I would want to own, but if it helps the HD DVD cause to have another studio support it then I am all for it.

Lionsgate only has 472 titles so imo they need to release on the new formats just to be able to resale what they have as they have pretty much exhausted the DVD market.

I was wondering that myself previously, it seems he has posted since the end of Sept. Anyone know if he got suspended?

Yeah, though I can't see why they need a BD50, the "original cut" just has a little one or two minute scene tacked on to the end. It's not like the runtime jumped from 99 minutes to 140.

I've tried to PM him and it doesn't work.

Every studio was guarenteed a certain number of BD50 titles that Sony would effectively subsidize regardless of cost. I don't know if this was for a small 10,000 copy run or what.

Basically Lions Gate and others chose whatever titles for this they wanted. They don't have to use the full BD50 space, Superman Returns will likely come in at 30GB on BD50 and be the same size as the HD-30 release.

I'd like T2, Stargate, Stir Of Echoes, and The Descent for starters. All BD exclusives until LG announces dual format support. ;)

At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if a box set of Seinfeld episodes were released with one episode per 50GB disc...if for nothing else the marketing exposure! HA! Probably should have been ready from the beginning...but what do I know? Cell phones have been beta tested on us for years. That must be the model Sony opted to use...

All with 1080p/VC-1 transfers and 24-bit Dolby TrueHD 5.1 tracks with IME. :D

I don't think we find out until CES 2007.

Man I'm excited about CES 2007 for a variety of reasons. It's going to be the first CES where we have shipping HD DVD and Blu-Ray players.

There are going to be a lot of new toys coming.

The only thing I want out of CES is a 70 inch SED HDTV.

Way before that. We will likely be watching Lionsgate HD DVDs by CES.

Let's keep it that way.

Actually, maybe the HD DVD Mafia whacked him because he had too much "insider information". :p

You'll get no complaints from me on this one. To dream is to dare.

Wow I'd be pretty impressed with a 2006 announcement from LGF. They could count on a few late 2006 early 2007 purchases from me.

I know I'd take a week off from work if T2 was to hit in their first wave and it had TrueHD. :p

T2 and Stargate would be immediate buys for me.

I'd eventually buy The Punisher, though not right away...

Frank Herbert's Dune would be an immediate buy once it's released...

No announcement, when asked they also didn't deny plans for HD-DVD, they said they'd have something to say later.

Keep something in mind vis-a-vie Lionsgate. Senior management only made the decision to go forward with HD DVD a few of weeks ago. Manufacturing capacity for HD DVD is still very limited and one look at the most recent updates on planned releases between now and December makes it obvious that anyone this late to the party is likely at the back of a fairly long queue to have material authored and replicated. Lionsgate will make an announcement when they have something to announce. That could be before the end of this month. I doubt it will be any later than November.

How about the Disney announcement? Are we still expecting it to come at CES 2007?

You have to hand it to Venus de Milo..., otherwise she would starve.

Score another one for HD-DVD. I wonder how all those BD freaks are enjoying there 'Click!'. Thats a title we REALLY needed to see on the magical BD50 disc. Not something that will actually make someone decide to buy a BluRay over HD-DVD.

I don't have a source for info on Disney so I personally know only what I read here.

My personal opinion on Disney is that they will not make any announcement on possible HD DVD support until after PS3 launches and they get an early read on BD disc sales as a result.
