As for the hd-dvd releases perhaps they are readying 1-4 on hd-dvd for a june release .

They most likely figure lots of people will be looking to buy to catch up for the 5th movie release .

Then for that holiday we see part 5 on hd-dvd .

How did you get it at this price? Reading all the great reviews of this HD-DVD has me really tempted to import it, but I'm not sure I want it bad enough to pay over $40 for it.

I agree I picked air mail service through amazon.co.uk with HP4 and it was 26 plus pounds which comes out to about $51. I will wait it is not worth that much for a HD-DVD.

I guess it all depends on perceived value. If it's a movie you'll re-watch 5-6 times, then it equates to movie theatre prices, but that still may not be enough.

If you have kids, or neices and nephews, or adult friends or relatives who are Harry Potter fanatics, showing them the high-def version will be a big success too.

Personally, I've watched it twice just in the last 48 hours and I know I'll watch it many more times to come. I know >$50 is pricey (mine came to $48 with shipping), but if any film were worth it at this point, it's this one. I still think it's a disgrace that it's not available for sale in the US.

Still looking for a movie theatre that shows movies the way they're SUPPOSED to be viewed...

I agree with that; if any title is worth this kind of price, this is it.

So can Sony preach morality to Warner? Warner can be told what to do by a competing studio? I don't know! Can MS dictate to others? If Sony has set the precedent then maybe its time for MS to flex its considerable financial muscle and maybe buy both Warner and Paramount.

How can anyone argue parody when studio support is so skewed?

Cheers,

Grant

I think Blazing Saddles is parody. On the other hand, if all studios supported both formats equally that would be parity.

Play fair, if HD DVD titles are ready to be released, release them. HD DVD is still the underdog as far as CE and studio support. Why should they wait for BD to catch up. BD had a slow start, initial releases were less than stellar, HD DVD were not. Let the consumer decide.

Someone please tell me, how does Warner stand to benefit if BluRay were to win the format war?

I came across www.sendit.com
It listed Harry Potter Goblet of Fire HD-DVD UK Region 2
for 16.89 (pounds) with 1.60 shipping.
It was backordered, but...
I got on the wait list for it a few days ago and now the status says packing.....

Total 18.49 (pounds) shipping included to US.

Hope its the real deal......anyone else use this site before ??

Terence.

I'm still hoping to receive this title before X-MAS (ordered from X-ploited). I hear it's a tier 1 title besides that it was a great movie. It sux that Warner failed to release this in the U.S. when it was completed.

Ordered mine from Xploited Cinema yesterday, seeing as how they were coming in today I didn't really expect them to ship today but they did. I was pretty impressed, hopefully I'll get it before the 25th but since I'm in Canada it probably won't make it, especially at this time of the year *crosses fingers*

The only problem with your assertion is that right now HD-DVD hardware is having no problems selling, so having a "killer app" for HD-DVD is unnecessary. B&M stores that carry the players can't keep them in stock because they're only getting 3-4 at a time right now. HD-DVD needs another hardware backer other than Toshiba, or Toshiba needs to crank out a lot more players. The 360 add-on is OK, but I had to scour several retailers and finally found one way in the middle of Nowhere, TX.

I just got an e-mail that mine shipped. It looks like they ship out of Ohio so depending on where you are in Canada it could be pretty quick. (I'm in Michigan!! )

I ordered night before last and got an e-mail yesterday that it was backordered, but got a shipping notice this AM. Hopefully it will be here by Saturday. Unfortunately the USPS tracking software is worthless.

We're huge Potter fans in my house, though it didn't start off that way.

Potter fan here too.

I selected Priority Mail since you get delivery on Saturday. I had ordered IL 2 Sturmovik 1946 from GoGamer.com, it was sent Tuesday and arrived today so I JUST might receive Potter by Saturday if I'm lucky.

IL-2 1946 is also only available by import and GoGamer is carrying it here in the States.

Same here, which is why I'm hoping for a Saturday arrival. Also, Rowling announced the title of the 7th book today, though you have to go through a convoluted way of getting to the game of hangman that lets you figure it out.

Silly question, perhaps, but is there no region encoding for us US A2 users? PAL discs from the UK will work on a US A2/TV?

No region coding on HD DVD worldwide yet And there is no such thing as NTSC and PAL in the HD DVD/Blu-Ray world.
But you can't play R2 PAL DVDs on your A2, if that's what you asked for.
