After spending $37 on Superman Returns from BB (Walmart sold out. You guys didn't leave some for me ) I decided f*** it might as well spend the same amount on HP4.

The additional scenes are in HD. Cool.

The kids will enjoy the IME feature. Funny stuff.

PQ and AQ are excellent. Lots of dark indoor scenes so if you don't have a properly calibrated PJ you will lose a lot of details. The First Task scene is a demo material. Loud, low and enveloping sound. This is a nice gift for someone you know that has HD DVD player. Bragging rights to boot

Great, ill have to import it.
Hope to see the first 3 soon as well, ill import the first one for sure as the UKs got the right title. (Philoshphers stone, why the US gets a different version, scences are diffrent to, I've got the region 2 DVD too)

Does your copy have the FBI warning,
I'VE heard the UK version does which make me wonder if that's what held back the US version. You know maybe they pressed the wrong version. Prehapps they are struggling to fix the US version.

I watched this last night.

My tentative first impression is that this may be the best PQ I have seen in either format. In any event, this is clearly a must-have title.

Watched this the other day as well, PQ and AQ were both very good. One of the better titles IMO.

Why is this title not out in the US? Are Studio's trying to kill HD-DVD? Harry Potter would be a system seller and yet people are having to import it.

Harry Potter
Matrix
LOTR

These 3 released now with about a month between them would sell a lot of HD-DVD players.

My guess is that they are waiting until they can release it on Blu Ray at the same time.

I know it's the Xmas season and having a Harry Potter Film in HD-DVD would help sell hardware and the software would sell through the roof. I'm not a huge Harry Potter fan but even i can see this title would help sell the format.

I very much believe that both Harry Potter and the Matrix are all finished, duplicated and sitting in boxes in a warehouse gathering dust. I can only speculate why they are not releasing it at this time. My best guess is that Sony convinced them not to "favor" HD DVD over BD and to wait to release the HD DVD version until the BD versions of both are finished.

Both Paramount and Warner have declared that they are "neutral" in the high-def wars. All it would take is a little pressure from Sony to tell them that by releasing these movies on HD DVD BEFORE the BD version is ready is a violation of their statement on neutrality.

It's really a shame that they will miss the holiday season with these. It would have really promoted the technology. But it just goes to show that this whole HD DVD / BD thing is more about politics than it is about the consumers.

I believe the next HP movie is being released in June of next year. Perhaps they are waiting to release GOF until then for marketing and promotional reasons.

All of the Harry Potter movies go on moratorium on February 7. I seriously doubt they will take it OFF moratorium in July. Six months is not a very long moratorium. If HP is not released on HD DVD by February, then I think it will be at least a year or more before we see it at all.

Haven't heard that before. That is a bummer. I already have all four on DVD, but we are eagerly awaiting all of them on HD DVD. If it gets close to the moratorium date with no US release, I will just buy the import. I'll wait until then to move in case it comes out in the US first. I do think I might buy the Philosopher's Stone UK version, since it actually sounds as if it will differ slightly from the US release of Sorcerer's Stone.

You have to hand it to Venus de Milo..., otherwise she would starve.

Got to give a thumbs up to xploited cinema on this. $36.95 is a great price considering that amazon.co.uk sells it for £25.99 = $50.97. And since Tony's already done the importing for us, I only had to wait 3 days for it show up. (*cough* buy.com can't even get my movies in 3 weeks *cough*)

I didn't wait. Ordered from Amazon.UK. Had it in three days. I have all the HP films but I think (story wise) this is the best of the bunch. I didn't have any problem with PQ or IME or anything else I threw at my US A1. If you are waiting for this in the US don't, just order from the UK. I have had this title for three weeks now in my collection.

I ordered mine from Xploited video but this is just disgusting that in the middle of a format war mainstream killer movies like this and matrix are just being held from release in the states for no apparent reason.

I doubt the discs are pressed, except maybe Harry Potter. Circumstantial evidence indicates Warner had pressed HP for the US but then decided to not release it right away (for whatever reason). To mitigate their loss on the discs, they decided on a European release and just sent the US discs over there. Kinda weird, but this IS HD DVD after all .

The Matrix is finished as far as authoring and compression, but that release was delayed to allow time for the two sequels to be finished as Warner decided to release these as a set. I am told to expect the set 1st Q '07 (maybe early 1st Q).

Hmmm, what better way to help promote HD DVD, or even Blu-ray for that matter. Put the SD DVD on moratorium and make the movies available only on HD.

I just noticed on the xploited site that 1, it was out of stock bummer, and 2 it said 1:85 aspect ratio for the HD-DVD. I thought the original was 2:35? Is the HD-DVD 2:35 and this is a typo?
