That's a good excuse to watch it again, scowl.

They're in several scenes, being the Americans in the pit crew for the "Honda" team, and with some decent closeups. He brought back home movies of him playing cards with James Garner on the sets, and Garner hamming it up as Maverick! When the movie was released, and came to State College, we all dressed, had a cocktail party and dinner before hand, and treated it like a Hollywood opening! Great fun, and really even more fun seeing it some forty years later!

You don't think I actually bought it, did you?

All I remember is something about Jim Rockford wanting to win a big race, one of the seven samurai bragging about how many American planes he shot down and Yves Montand acting somewhat drunk in most of the scenes.

NOW: my post on AVS Forum.

I'm an old hand who saw this one in it's original Cinerama Dome run in Hollywood. No, the story is not memorable, but parts of it are far more palatable, even if they are forgettable, than just about any portion of one of today's action-piece "scripts."

After I saw it at the Granada Theater in Chicago, I bought a plastic model of a race car like the ones in the movie. It was my first model; I was 6 or 7 years old then.

Just got round to watching this and would echo the comments earlier in the thread.

Very decent film and blown away by the picture. Fantastic. Hard to belive it's 42 years old. Pity they don't make films like this any more.

Can imagine this would look downright amazing on a good PJ setup.

Don't know if an RS1 in a light controlled room qualifies (there are much better pj's out there) but I have to agree. And, blacks are BLACK! When they're pulling the car out of the drink the night sky is so dark and noiseless you can't see the horizontal black bars of my non-zoom 16:9 setup.

When i get this experience i know i bought a damn good movie. Its like an Onion. No, not because it stinks; not because it brings tears to your eyes; but because it has layers.

It does look fantastic on my 1080p Epson setup.

Well then... you know what to do about that... and I'd do it! Well worth the $5 or $10 and the time it takes to watch.

I went ahead and started a screenshot thread since one is sorely needed for this film.

I'm looking for this one but inetvideo.ca is out and amazon.ca is too expensive any suggestion?
FS and BB are out too, I live in Canada should I pay the price asked from amazon (21.95$ CAD) or wait for the blu-ray?
Thanks.

Renting can be an inexensive way to view hi-def movies, especially if you have a full-featured HTPC, so try this place for Canadians only:
https://www.zip.ca/startnow.aspx
Notice their free trial.

As you can also see, they have quite a number of HD-DVDs (including Grand Prix) and Blurays.

For the longer term, their 3-disk-out plan is very good. Free shipping both ways. If you play your cards right, you can view 12 disks, or more, per month.
