I bought Superman II: The Richhard Donner Cut yesterday at the local BB, and it was $2 cheaper (23.95 vs 25.95 CDN) then the Regular DVD Version! Result! Now only wish it was a combo, I would have paid $2 more. The kids would then be able to watch it in the car then.

it was kind of an underwhelming film though. Donner loyalists kid themselves when they think it's 'miles' better than the Lester version. PQ was nice, much better than the first

Yeah I like the theatrical cut much better. I was decidedly unimpressed by this (first time I can say that for either HD-DVD or Blu-ray), but I blame that on the age of the film and it's SFX and the particular edit/cut rather than anything due to this being an HD-DVD.

It was a very interesting experiment though. I liked the extra Lex scenes, and some of the banter. Have not decided if I like it better than the Lester version yet.

I believe a lot of the look is due to the soft filters used in the photography (the original Superman, shot at the same time, has a similar look). With this disc, however, there are some scenes that were patched together. For example, in the hotel scene where a screen test was used, there's a shot (maybe more than one) which is very blurry. I think that's due to them having to crop and blow up the footage to get a close-up out of it.

The most noticable (for me) was that the bit in the FoS at the end of the movie mixed together Donner and Lester footage; the Lester used white light while the Donner stuff used a blue light. Couldn't they at least have tried to tint the color of those bits to match the rest of the scene?

The hotel scene is a Screen Test for Superman 1, Screen Test normal use crappy tape because of there Test Nature. Today the don't even use Film to do screen test anymore, they use Video...

89+ Blu-ray Disc ;)
