I just watched The Road Warrior last night and I must say that I was incredibly surprised to see such a beautiful picture. This one is a must own for everyone!

For a movie over twenty years old, I was not expecting such clarity and detail and some really pleasant depth. Coming from an owner of the VHS tape and an average presentation on DVD, I thought the graininess of the film was an intentional stylistic choice, aiming for a rough and gritty look of the desert. But what a surprise to see the film as it was meant to be seen, a style that was meant to show in detail the vast emptiness of the desert.

Sorry for the bad pictures. I'm not too good at this.

wow, I must say that I am considering an HD DVD player, I thought I was content with DVD on my Sanyo Z5 until LOTR was released on HD DVD, but now I don't know anymore!

Those comparison shots (especially King Kong) show alot of added detail, its amazing.

On Xbox Live, you can download 1 minute clips from the 1st movie. It's in HD, but 2-channel stereo. Visual are great, sounds decent in DPLII. There's supposed to be a new clip(s?) every day till next Tuesday. I got 3 last night (lobby shootout, Neo/Mor training, and rooftop bullet-time).

The 1-minute clips are about 50MB each on Marketplace.

BTW, just judging by these movie clips, it looks spectacular in HD.
And a new clip is up today - Neo stopping bullets in mid-air.

The droid battle scene is really awesome! The first movie is very difficult to take screenshots from because it's such a dark movie. It looks very sharp on screen and the screenshots don't do the picture justice. The Matrix has some PQ problems but improves noticeably in the later more action-filled parts. I have only watched short bits of the third movie and it looks better than the first from what I've seen.

Question to those taking screenshots, what is the best way to capture a screenshot? From my understanding is that with the First Gen players, pausing will not give you the full resolution of image. Is this true? I have an A1 with the latest V2.2 Firmware. Also, I have an XBox 360 adaptor, Is there any way to capture full rez screenshots on a windows XP machine? I know a lot of HD DVD playback software disabled the print screen function, so I am not sure how Xylon does his wonderful screen grabs.

Thanks

HD is not kind for the weathered face. Some stars probably prefer the "softer & kindler" sd dvd.

Heh, a lot of people who work in front of the cameras would prefer standard def especially news reporters, etc.

One of our local stations that broadcasts the local news in HD uses a filter to soften the image so you don't see as much detail on the newscasters faces.
