Thanks for posting the component pics, Viper. It seems to me that the component does appear less cartoonish color wise. I'll have to test mine soon to see which I like best. I just hate the idea of dropping to 1080i for HD-DVD's, even though it may look better.

FYI, i posted some pics of my setup earlier in this thread and it was VGA from my xbox 360 @720p.... it can look great on some setups i think, as long as that washed out problem (and subsequent oversaturation) isn't inherent in your display.

Thanks for the pics, Iggster. I know your camera might not be capturing all the sharpness and vibrancy of these images but I can tell they look great in person. Plus it's kinda cool to see PotC screens in the HD-DVD screenshot thread. I can make exceptions if it's Johnny.

i dont have a tripod but even then you wont be able see what im seeing i doubt any camera can do that. its at least 2x sharper and more 3d like in person. at the very least...

Stick with Movie setting. If you don't calibrate or change anything else, the picture will be much more accurate with Movie.

Nice pics, by the way.

It's hard to tell with digital cameras, because most of the time the colors are over-saturated or out of wack anyway.

The "washed-out color" should be fixed by switching from Standard to the Intermediate or Expanded video setting with VGA. It basically changes the output's black/white level to hopefully match what the TV expects to see (if it's washed out with Standard, switching to Expanded should make it look much better). I had self-calibrated my Samsung, so I was okay before and with Standard now. But theoretically calibrating the brightness (black level) and contrast (white level) should do the same thing, and both of these settings have a big effect on how bright/deep or washed-out colors look.

That's one of our favorite episodes at our house. The crystal caves are amazing.

The problem with obsessions is that they are insatiable.

search for my screenshots in this thread, they are all 720p pixelmapped. it makes the image a bit flatter, so if you have a good scaler in you projector I would recommend 1080i.
but it looks great either way!

Fantastic shots, Viper! I always thought your screens were great and these new ones reaffirm that feeling. I do see an extra bit of detail with your new camera, though. Like for instance, the shot of that canyon shows more fine detail in the rock structure. Some of the scenes seem a bit dark, though, but I'm sure you'll correct that once you get the settings where you want.

thanks
I personally like the shot with the elephants

I'm probably not gonna play with the settings too much cuz I didn't buy this thing to take pics off my tv with...... I'll prolly just stick to my old camera for that after I've had some fun trying this new one out

I can't wait to see how it performs when I get a better lens(I'm just using the canon kit lens right now which is supposed to suck according to reviews)
