Sony won't let them press the BD discs.

Not gonna happen! This post was about last year. They are all united with HD DVD now.

It is very possible, and actually likely, that Steve Hirsch PLANS to release on Blu-ray but has not yet contacted a BD replicator to have his hat handed to him.

The only other possibility in light of the statements by a US Sony rep on this forum is that there may be a replicator in Japan that is more open-minded.

I would say it is a 50-50 they will print on blu-ray. G4 t.v. had AEE coverage last night and when they interviewed Vivid girls there was a banner in the background which clearly had blu-ray and hd-dvd labeled on whatever movie the banner was for.

If he's announced a specific specific title with a release date, he's not only contacted them, he's already scheduled production.

Just saw a video clip and he stated Vivid was able to find a replicator but it was "difficult and they tried to block us".

I thought the most interesting comment I saw was at the end when he said that the adult industry is in flux right now where it used to be that 90% of their business was DVD and this year it will be 40% (I think he even said less than 40%). I'm guessing online is becoming a bigger portion, but he didn't make that clear.

I'd like to see a price on that if/when it comes out.

It may give some idea how much the Sony subsidy is for Blu-ray manufactured discs.

If we could get prices for disc replication it could be interesting. But with movies priced at $49.95 or so, they could take a couple dollar hit per disc without changing the retail price at all. Not that I think it is a couple of dollars for what they are likely to use (a BD25). Heck, the first HD DVD looks like it takes less than 8GB for the movie and they could have used an HD9. As I said elsewhere, I wonder if some of these porn studios will release on HD9s and BD9s. Might make it easier.

Ironically, it seems the porn people are more likely to use interactive features. I think the extra space would be beneficial to them.

P.S. Does anyone beyond porn studios use alternate angles?

Out of about 600 DVD's that I own the only one I can think of that has multiple angles is a Metallica concert boxed set. And its only there for 3 songs.

Lagosian,

Vivid encountered the very same resistance from Blu-ray replicators, but was eventually able to get someone to do it.

yup. comments from those in the industry are interesting to read. I think part of the problem is the glut of cheap 'gonzo' style productions. Stuff that is cranked out in a couple days. Retailers can't keep up with the sheer number of titles released.
Also, if people think the VOD is going to hurt the adoption of Bd/HD DVD, just imagine what it will do to product where the average consumer may only really want one specific 20 minute scene...and can get it with VOD.

It's ironic that with >95% of Blu-rays base being young-ish videogame fans, the one content that is more 'interactive' than actual movies is being blackballed from their format of choice .
buh-dum-bump!*

*that's supposed to be a rimjo...er..rimshot, btw.

(sorry- posted that before I saw Bugs already made the point. Great minds and all that I guess)

Here we go again. The argument about Sony blocking porn is unfounded. There already is hardcore on Blu-ray.

then maybe the porn compaines were lying.
Maybe they just aren't being offered the enormous subsidizes that Disney and Fox are and the end result is that Blu-ray is just way too in-economical to publish content on?

I guess a lot of people might have missed it, but there was an offhand comment in one of the threads in the >$3500 PJ forum. The issue at hand had nothing whatsoever to do with the format war, and was related to something entirely different- but the comment was that this person had heard that their comapines east coast replication houses were reporting QC yields of 9 out of 10 for their HD DVDs and the opposite of that for their Bds.
I think the point he was making was related to inter-company communication rather than anything HD related, but it was interesting nonetheless.

anybody still not think that Bd is continuing to be subsidized heavily in all facets (from the ps3 to each piece of bd50 software)?

I'm the only person in the World that actually likes old pornography aren't I?

The porno industry is the only ****ing one that, if they ever decide to press old movies, hardly ever go through their back catalogues for costumers. I want the original Debbie Does Dallas, that was on film stock right? I'd like a lot of old filmed porno's in HD. The Opening of Misty Beethoven, Talk Dirty to Me I and II... so many awesome movies. You know when the porno industry actually put as much money into production as low budget hollywood movies did.

*sigh*

That's in Japan.

All the porn companies reporting this (and there are several) are in the US.
