Star Wars isn't Blu-ray exclusive.

LucasFilm owns the rights to distribute it.. not Fox.

PS3 is not looking so bad now. Especially since i already have an HD-DVD player. BTW, what are the chances of the Star Wars movies being released on HD-DVD?

Star Wars won't see the light of day in any format until 2009 at the earliest....probably 2010.

Not only that, but to many ways to milk them on DVD some more. Like releasing another special edition limited time set, this time with the originals with a new transfer and anamorphic.

Mongol General:"What is best in life?"
Conan:"To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women."

I wouldn't hold my breath for release on either format. The original Star Wars movies did not come out on DVD until 2004!!!

When George Lucas absolutely cannot milk the DVD market with these films anymore then you will see them released in HD. But it will be the new series first.

I found this interesting quote:

Quote:

Lucas has hinted in the past that he will release his definitive (often called "archival") editions of all six of his Star Wars films on a next-generation home-video format in 2007. This release would coincide with the 30th anniversary of the Star Wars saga. It has been speculated that he will take this opportunity to make any final adjustments, changes, additions, and/or subtractions to his films for this final release. An altered clip from The Phantom Menace included in a featurette on the DVD release of Revenge of the Sith (in which a computer generated Yoda replaces the original puppet) appears to be a sign that the "archival" editions are indeed in the works.

It is said that this edition will be released in a "Grand Saga" box set. Lucasfilm Vice President of Marketing Jim Ward confirmed that in this final release, Lucasfilm is likely to return to John Lowry to do even more work on the films (possibly digital contemporization of the original trilogy). He says, "As the technology evolves and we get into a high-definition platform that is easily consumable by our customers, the situation is much better, but there will always be work to be done."[9]

Producer Rick McCallum has also explained that Lucasfilm has been holding back a large amount of bonus material for this release, including deleted scenes, as well as numerous previous Star Wars "making-ofs," spin-offs, television specials, documentaries, and other special material.

There has been much hope for another Star Wars trilogy but George Lucas has said that there are no plans for episodes 7, 8, and 9.

I wouldn't expect them to release star wars for another 5 years, if there is one thing Lucas knows how to do it is to milk it for all its worth.

Maybe I'm just bitter because i own 3 copies of the trilogy.

Oh, and I'll reiterate Star Wars is NOT exclusive to anything, Lucas owns the rights not Fox.

I honestly don't think it is.

It isn't the greatest Blu-ray player nor is it the best next-gen console.

Call me the "Studio Exclusive Killa"

These exclusives are nothing like Halo or SOCOM where they will *never* end up on the other format. These exclusives are more akin to Splinter Cell that showed up on Xbox first and then 6 months later showed up on all formats. The studios aren't really as stupid as they currently are acting and are ultimately after everyone's money.

Count me with hmurchison! I know I'm definitely doing my part to tell the studios where to find my money...in HD DVD, that is!...

I believe that Lucas owns the rights to all of them except the original Star Wars "a new hope". Fox still has distribution rights on that one.

Of course Lucas only made 350 million last year. Far and above anyone else in hollywood (spielberg was 2nd with 250 million).

So I really doubt he cares about the money. That is such an old subject.
