Welcome to the AVS Imports thread which will hopefully tell you all you need to know about what titles you can Import, The thread started with just basic information, but now each title has its own entry with everything you need to know about it. If you have any questions not answered in this main list, or if you have any other information on titles or how the list can be improved please comment, your help is much appreciated. I would like to thank all the members who have helped me so far with the list.
When added to the list none of these titles were available on HD DVD in North America, although a select few are available now the majority remain exclusively availabe through importing, this may be because they are Blu-Ray exclusive in North America or because the Studio with the rights to release them in North America has chosen not to do so as of yet.
There are so many titles now that if you know what you are looking I recommend you use CTRL+F to find the title, remember titles starting with 'The' will not be found unless you put 'The' at the end.
eg. CTRL+F: Island, The

This thread is best viewed using the AVS Black skin although it is legible with all skins.

Last Update December 9th 2007

New Rating System
The new rating system will take the ratings from several sources including the PQ thread found here and ratings given by Hi-Def Digest, an average score will then be calculated for each title, this will ensure that you know which are the highest quality imports. The rating system is as shown below:
4.5-5.0: Platinum
4.0-4.4: Gold
3.5-3.9: Silver
3.0-3.4: Bronze
2.5-2.9: Copper

I just received Fragile: A Ghost Story and it has DD 5.1 English as the default audio.

From what I can tell it is scheduled for a US Theatrical release in 2007 sometime.

BTW, please don't type in white, those of us that use the "white" theme at AVS can't read it.

At no point in your rambling, incoherent post were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this forum is now dumber for having read it.

The details of the Japanese release of xXx are the same as the Jap Equilibrium.

You can also add the French Pathé release of Enemy at the Gates (Stalingrad). Details are:
The main movie has an English DTS HD MA 5.1 soundtrack with optional French subtitles, and a French dubbed track.
The menu is in French, but easy to work out (use Babel/Altavista if necessary).

The extras:
- There's a "Making of" docu in English with optional French subtitles.
- There's also a relatively interesting historical French documentary (in French only with no English subtitles) of the lead-up to and battle of Stalingrad.
- Thirdly there are eight deleted scenes; all in English with once again optional French subtitles.

HD DVD Dude,

I notice that the Studio Canal Total Recall release isn't on the list yet.
I have the Australian releases of Rambo First Blood, Rambo II and Total Recall; all of which are identical to the French releases except for the cover art i.e.
English Audio track
English Menu: Yes, asks for language on first startup, then saves selection
Subtitles: Optional (English available)

http://www.dvdcrave.com/products/product.jsp?pid=33032
http://www.dvdcrave.com/products/product.jsp?pid=33033
http://www.dvdcrave.com/products/product.jsp?pid=33037

And a couple of additions to Equilibrium:
English Menu: No, Japanese only (trial and error method works here )
Subtitles: Optional (No English subs option)

EDIT: The same details also apply to the Japanese release of xXx

One suggestion. Could you maybe make the movie titles bold and Cyan colour? That would contrast better against the Yellow colour of the movie details.

Updated info on various titles thanks for the information Kannisto & AES256.

@AES256, I will look into choosing a more contrasting colour but Cyan is not very readable in the AVS White website theme

Gotcha. My AVS settings are Yellow font on dark gray background so Cyan and Yellow contrast well, but anyway, it's just a minor point. If there is a combination that contrasts well against both the background colour as well as the two different colours chosen for the movie titles and details, then that would be cool

I just edited the following in my previous post for Total Recall and the Rambos:
Subtitles: Optional (English available)

I've changed the colour, let me know if you think it contrasts better, I think the Total Recall and Rambos are the same as French I will edit list and change to (French, UK & Australian Versions) for Total Recall, (French & Australian) for Rambo.

Some small corrections/additions:

Add French title of English movie:
Alexander (Alexandre) (French Version)
Enemy At The Gates (Stalingrad) (French Version) ["Gates" is plural btw]
Three Days of the Condor (Les 3 Jours du Condor) (French Version)
============
Equilibrium (Japanese Version)
Subtitles: Optional (no English subs option)

Rambo I, II and III (Australian Version)
Subtitles: Optional (English available)

xXx (Japanese Version)
Subtitles: Optional (no English subs option)
============
Buy German HD DVD releases:
Amazon Germany http://www.amazon.de/
Buy Swedish HD DVD releases:
Disc Shop http://www.discshop.se/
============
Amazon Japan and HMV Japan only sell Japanese releases, so should go under the "Japanese Versions" heading; not "International"
============
Also the HMV Japan link doesn't work. Correct link = http://www.hmv.co.jp/

Some comments after quick review of the list at the top:

Alexander:
"English Menus: Yes, French with some English words mixed in"
It doesn't have a real English menu but the French menu uses some English words instead of French in some cases and overall the menu is easy to understand for English users as well.

Fragile:
"Subtitles: Optional, apart from ''Making Of'' (Spanish with Japanese subtitles)"
I could remove the subs while watching "Making Of" by using the remote so I think they are optional there as well. It would be good to note that the Optional subs are Japanese only.

"Ran (UK & Japanese Versions)"
Actually there are no UK & Japanese versions of Ran on HD DVD currently. It's a French release that is also released in some other European countries, but not UK .

Renaissance (German Version)
"Subtitles: Optional"
Those optional subs are only available in German, which is good to note.

Running Scared (German Version)
"Subtitles: Optional"
Those optional subs are only available in German, which is good to note.

The Gift (Japanese Version)
Details not included in top list yet, I added them in my section.

The Machinist (Japanese Version)
"Subtitles: Optional"
Good to note that the optional subs are Japanese only.

General comment: I think it would be better to ignore "The" in the alphabetical ordering of titles, so that e.g. The Machinist would be sorted as "Machinist" etc.

HD DVD: 387 (new: Taking Lives ; list)
Blu-ray: 262 (new: North Face (UK) ; list)
HD DVD-R: 262 (new: Charlie Wilson's War ; list)
