This has to be the most confusing, trippy, out there movie I've ever seen. I've never heard of the movie before, when I watched it on HD DVD two nights ago, I was going WTF from beginning to end.

I guess you can appreciate it if you really wanted to know what someone high on a gazillion type of drugs might experience, but boy it was hard to watch this movie to the end.

On the bright side, the PQ was great, the movie on the other hand...... is a very acquired taste I would say.

Its for acquired taste, I loved the movie and cinetography. Picture quality was great considering how old and low budget the movie was.

Yeah it's an acquired taste, I understood every single aspect of this movie the first time I watched it, and think it's a classic.

Agreed. And only Terry Gilliam could have brought it to the big screen.

It's a blind buy for me and I still haven't watched it. I'll get to in a week or so. Last night I fired up another blind buy, The Corpse Bride, but I got tired and turned if off. Love the PQ of that movie though and I heard that F&LiLV looks damn good as well. I tend to like "eclectic" movies so I'm not worried that I'll have blind buyers remorse.

This movie is awesome. The HD DVD is beautiful. I read the book when I was 16 years old and it changed my life. For the better? That's debatable.

Five-dollar HD DVDs effing rule.

Movie wasn't for me... I have the Criterion version, only reason I have it is because Depp is in it, I think he was brilliant, but I won't rebuy in hd dvd.

its a love it or hate it kinda movie. I felt the same way about Children of men and Lost in translation, critics loved it and I use them as coasters and rear view mirror ornaments.

Several of my friends and I get together about every few months to watch this HD DVD. We never get tired of it and by now have every line memorized. Sad but true...

I hated it, that being said it's one of my brother's and his buddies favorites and I'll probably watch it with them on HD and give it yet another chance. I mean, it's HD!

This move is one of my favs. I thought the transfer was excellent. I've seen it like a dozen times. I thought Depp was hysterical and at the same time.....I think his "experience" kinda allowed him to play that role to perfection.

I cannot imagine watching this movie without having read HST's F&LILV. As your attorney, I advise you to read the book.

I thought this was a great movie. I lived a very similar experience to the part where they are on the rotating restraunt one time in Circus Circus when I was in Vegas for a Dead show in 92!

Is the audio corrected on this? As I recall, the special edition dvd had some weird audio issues with some effects not there, and some sounding odd. Just hoping no one noticed anything a miss on the Dolby True HD track.

This is one of a few Universal titles with lossless audio and all anyone talks about is picture quality? I don't understand why the HD-DVD crowd seems so unconcerned about audio quality ("DD+ sounds fine" etc). I'd love to hear this title in TrueHD and if I'm not mistaken....it is 24 bit.

Yeah, and if you want to watch an even more dark and disturbing movie, watch Terry Gilliam's Tideland. That movie was very depressing.

This was one of the early Universal TrueHD titles that had problems with the video skipping and losing audio sync if you selected TrueHD. The disc was basically unwatchable unless you switched back to DD+.

Not sure if recent firmware updates to the players have affected this or not.

The latest firmware seemed to fix this problem for me on the A1.

I never really had much use for Terry Gilliam until I watched Lost in LaMancha... that guy is just snake bitten, I could see how it would be hard for him to get a gig.

arguably this is Johnny depp's best performance in a movie ever, he deserved a bald gold statue for the role.

???

I thought the HD-DVD was based on U's previous transfer, which was considered to be poorer than the Criterion disc.

As far as the movie itself goes, on my first viewing I was constantly thinking: "I'm so selling this kooky thing off".

But somehow by the end of the movie I was won over and still have the two disc version.
