Who cares about the look of the disc if people will make the HD jump who otherwise wouldn't?

Long live combos! May they come down in price!

I don't feel special...

Combos will die when four layer hybrid discs are viable (2 Layers HD and 2 Layer SD).

Dont expect combo disks to go anywhere. They are going to become the norm when HD DVD becomes mainstream. They are the replacement for SD DVD in the market place. Studios will not have to produce, package and ship 2 disks for every movie. That one disk solution will save them tons of money. Also dont expect the prices on media to stay too high. They will eventually fall. Just as DVD prices fell.

Even if we kill the combo discs, paramounts new releases still cost as much as a combo disc.

Exactly. One of the advantages that HD DVD does have. Basically whenever I decide to get a HD DVD player in the future.. I will already have the HD version on the flip side.

Maybe they will get rid of the single DVD and HD releases, and release all new releases in just combo format.

I hope combos don't replace SDs.

I like combos. My niece is visiting and I can play the Happy Feet combo in the living room DVD player while the HD DVD player is in use. Works for me.

Oh, noes, I was wondering what was taking the combo haters so long to link the Paramount announcement somehow to the death of combos.

Somehow, I doubt that Paramount/Dreamworks told Toshiba and the DVD Forum that "we'll go exclusive as long as you kill combos. Otherwise, it's a non-starter."

If it's true, then I bet that the next time the Dow goes up 200 points would be an indication that the Bengals will win the Super Bowl.

Kizzo has it right. You don't want the combo discs to go away just yet. Think about it. If you could release a juggernaut like Transformers only on a HD-DVD Combo disc, (not on DVD) you would get guaranteed sales in the millions. Not to mention, millions of people would own an HD-DVD ready disc. That would be a huge boon for the HD-DVD format.

I like the combo discs. I can play them anywhere. I bought 300 in HD-DVD for this reason and not BD.

People should not knock the combo discs. I for one don't care. But many people who don't have high def yet said they would buy a combo movie so they would have it in high def later..

Do a search on these combo's, you will see many posts about lock-ups, error codes, skips, drop-outs. I like what Universal & Warner are doing, re-releasing without the SD side. Ditch the combo disc

What they should do with combos is give you 1 hd disc, and 1 sd disc, that way i could chuck the sd disc out into my yard where it belongs.

Conmbo's are one of the biggest advantages that HD DVD has in this war. Give it a little time and they will make a huge difference!

Amen brother!
That's why I'm not interested in combos.

Thanks pcdoctor! I don't get it, every HD DVD that has a problem is a combo disc. There are numerous threads. If they were manufactured better along with a lower price point than they wouldn't be so bad.

I don't get what you guys have against combos! Yes, they're $5 too much and shouldn't be. Yes, some have had some technical problems. In the abstract, though... do you really dislike the concept? What did a combo ever do to you?

I don't feel special...
