Island Fever 4 to Burn On HD DVD One-time Blu-ray backer Digital Playground will release the film next week.
Washington, D.C. (October 16, 2007) -- Digital Playground, which is run by the one-name Joone, will release Island Fever 4 next week on HD DVD.
The launch is significant for two reasons:
1. Digital Playground was originally a Blu-ray supporter. 2. Despite numerous articles that it could decide the high-def disc format war, the adult industry has released less than 20 titles in either Blu-ray or HD DVD.
Island Fever 4 -- yes, the fourth film in the series -- will be released in HD DVD on October 23. Online sites are now selling it for around $40.

A year ago, Digital Playground was all set to back Blu-ray with a slew of releases. However, Joone and other adult executives turned sour on the Sony-supported format when Sony-led production facilities offered little help in the replication process.
Sony denied that it was stiffing the adult industry, but the message came through.
Consequently, several adult studios said they would back HD DVD by default. Joone was quoted as saying he would support the format because it "was the only one available."
In the past 18 months, various newspaper and online publications have hinted that the adult industry could turn the tide in the format war, pointing to its influence over sales of Beta and VHS videotape players in the 1980s. (The adult industry sided with VHS.). But the format war and other issues have kept most titles off the market.
For those keeping score, Island Fever 4 was awarded the AVN 2007 "Best All-Girl Sex Scene."
Wow.... I can't believe that this is posted as new news. This exact title was posted almost word for word as last years.
Digital Playground was originally a BD supporter prior to releasing something but as far as I know they have released several HD-DVD's already (including Pirates which I already have). In fact as far as I can tell they have never released a BD.
Yeah, this is not news at all. They've been supporting HD DVD for quite some time. I remember reading interviews with Joone ages ago saying that he'd like to release on Blu-ray as well but the authoring and replication costs are just way too high, especially for smaller studios. Looks like TV Predictions needs to get with the program.
DP said they were going to HD-DVD a very long time ago. Way before that, they stated they wanted to do Blu-Ray but not too long after they made that statement they came out and said HD-DVD was just easier for them so they were going to support that. After they made that statement, they never once mentioned anything about using Blu-Ray. This news blurb is just a rehash of stuff that was said many months ago and they are putting today's date on it to make it look current. I guess he didn't have anything fresh to put up.
