Wow.. it had been a few years since I'd seen this movie. Why can't they make "action" films like this anymore. I mean it bares no resemblence to modern action films. It has true character development, a deep plot, storyline, social commentary etc etc.

The film was shot wonderfully, dark colours, you can really feel the winter and the scenery is lovely. It does look much better in HD-DVD than it did on DVD (it looked good on DVD too).

Alot of the movie is dark, so its not going to punch you out with bright high def colours, so don't buy this thinking you have a demo disk.

What you do have is something which really looks like film. No edge enhancement, natural smooth detail. I really like it, wish I had a CRT projector to enjoy it on, as its a completely analog type presentation.

So if your into classic films as opposed to blockbusters, make sure you rent/buy yourself a copy. Stallone as a scerious actor.

I still havn't seen Rambo II and III. I don't really want to as I think it will spoil the legacy of the first. Its a film that ends, and wasn't ever designed for a sequel.

Daniel.

I hadn't seen the first one since I was a kid, and rewatched it a month or so ago. I had completely forgotten everything about it and was suprised at how good it was. I think since I hadn't seen it so long I had gotten it confused with the sequels.

Rambo II and III are your more typical (for the era) indestructible one-man killing machine movies, and aren't nearly as good. Still enjoyable as a testosterone-driven action movie though.

Hopefully the new Rambo goes back to its roots.

I think action films are better now. With the Bourne series, Batman Begins, Casino Royale, etc, you get action films with WAY more character developement than RAMBO and a decent plot. FIRST BLOOD was good and did have some character developement, but RAMBO is a slick version of those cartoon action films that usually star Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Norris, Van Damme, Segal, etc.

That's the way I see it.

Great movie. Agreed, there is nothing like anymore. Its funny though, Rambo II is really what made the Rambo name famous, but the first is still the best.

Question for you guys. Its been debated quite a bit over the years, but, when Teasle is first arresting Rambo, and finds the knife on him, Rambo tells him its for hunting. Teasle then asks "What do you hunt with a knife?". What was Rambo's response?

Agreed. There are many people who think he says other things, like "Anything", "Everything", "The Enemy", or just "Enemy" etc. He mumbles it, and combined with Stallone's accent, it makes it unclear for a lot of people. I actually took an audio clip of it and slowed it down, and you can more clearly hear him say "Name it".

Agreed, Rambo is a very good movie and looks great ( for an older film) in HD. But they should have ended it like the book.

You misunderstood something here - Rambo is more of a comedy, not some serious action-based movie, keep in mind.

A better question is why they're still making this movie. Apparently the strike will affect nothing.

With a release date of January 25th '08, Stallone may prove that writers stopped coming up with new ideas years ago.

Have you seen the trailer for "Rambo?" Looks like some good old fashioned action, should be a good time. If it's anything near Rocky Balboa I'll be happy.

John Rambo. "When you're pushed. Killing's as easy as breathing. "

He turns a lot of people into hamburger in this new flick if you seen the trailer. Looks like it could be good.

Stallone actually wrote and directed this film... maybe it will prove why we do or don't need Hollywood writers?

Hmm.

Please watch the second Rambo movie.

In my opinion, it is almost as good as the original.

And no, they do not make action movies like they used to.

The trailer's got some pretty gory stuff but it has promise.

I like the way the first one opens up. Music, slow, and then builds up momentum. That's the way a good action flic should go.

WTF?

Do you honestly think a movie with a release date only two months away still has any writing tasks to be done?

I had seen Rambo II many times before seeing the original. I agree it was a different type of movie. The thing that surprised me the most was that the awesome score of Rambo II had words!

And it was full of 80's cheeztasticness...

I think Rambo: First Blood part II is better than part I. I tend to like more films with light, even though I also like part I very much I prefer part II. I will soon get my first HD DVD Rambo II!

I agree I enjoyed first blood very much. I didn't even bother with the other two films because I know they have nothing to do at all with the first one.

They're making a new Rambo movie now? I didn't know that. I don't recognize the picture that was attached to the post above, so I guess that's from the new show.

I would have to say though, it looks like they went cheapo on the snake-handler consultant. That doesn't look like the safest way to hold a cobra!

Odd... I always thought he said "Everything".

And unless the online script AND on disc subtitles are wrong, that's what he says.

on disc subtitles can often be very wrong.
I loved the original, "First Blood", was not called Rambo anything back then.
Actually "Rambo" was subtitled "First Blood part 2"
The new one might be ok. Rocky Balboa I think surprised alot of people and got mostly good reviews. I thought it was great.

LOL I haven't watched this in awhile, I didn't remember it sounding that funny. It doesn't even sound like Stallone. It just sounds like he says "may may."
