And a lot of winning bids going for significantly higher than they can be had at DD with free shipping. W.C. Fields would be proud.

I've also noticed that EBAY is pretty expensive.

I mean the lowest I've seen are 12 or 13 dollars shipped.

Which just isn't good enough for me, considering all the discounts online.

If they drop to 5 to 7 dollars shipped on EBAY, I'll be all over it.

Stix2, are you full of it? Or do you just put low bids on thousands of items, and just every now and then win one.

Because those prices you listed are NO WHERE NEAR the norm.

Wow, the Matrix deal is great, however I couldn't find one at any of the stores locally, but they say they ship them! These will sell like hotcakes for that price!

I got Casablanca on ebay last night for $12 shipped. I was happy with that.

Everything worthwhile (HD DVD's that include cases) seems to be at about $12 with shipping on there for the moment.

I went for Casablanca for 12 because I kind of figured that might be a tough title to find from here on out.

I tend to think it's going to take Amazon, Deep Discount or Best Buy to slash prices to get these under $12 a pop right now.

Hopefully, that's coming so I can fill out my collection and sit back and wait for Blue Ray to drop prices and build a player that's worth my money other than the PS3 which I don't want.

I just picked up the HD-DVD version of the Complete Matrix Collection on bestbuy.com for $44. When you throw in tax and subtract a $10 BB gift card I had lying around the whole set only cost me $37. Not too bad of a deal.

I searched completed sales to see what I might expect to pay and saw nothing like that. I'm looking to pick up a player for $60 or less shipped right now and having no luck.

Don't know if it's like this everywhere, but I walked into my local FYE during lunch to see if they had American Gangster. I wasn't expecting them to considering their CEO said they would begin to phase-out HD DVD soon after the Warner anouncement. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had it and it was priced to move ($27.99). BUT - it gets better...

It appeared to me that this FYE has begun their HD DVD liquidation. 60% of their Universal & Warner HD DVD inventory was "sale" priced at $16.99 (Combos, too). If this is any indication of what lies ahead for us over the next few weeks/months, I am going to really enjoy the HD DVD "going out of business" sales. I look at this way - why wait for the BD release of catalog titles when I can have them now for half of the price on HD DVD?

Yeah, FYE is a haven for HD DVD owners, especially because you can trade in dvd's and games for credit to go towards the discounted HD DVD's. Target has American Gangster for 26.95 by the way. I was thinking about getting it, until I read the extended version is only on the standard DVD, and the video quality isn't anything great. Beowulf is supposed to look incredible though.

I don't think they will go less than $10 which is my buying mark.

I picked up an xbox addon and 10 movies including the 5 disc bladerunner for $140 shipped.

I need the xbox anyway to load them on my HTPC.

I thought about picking up an A30 to replace my A3 in case I ever upgrade from 720p to 1080p.

I decided against it. I will just convert them to bluray. There is thread on how to do it at slysoft. It will be feasible in a few years.

HD DVD: 45 SD DVD: 350 BR: 120
PCs: 12, Mame Arcade:1, HD HTPC: 1, WHS Server: 1, HD A3: 2, HD-A30: 1

If anyone is looking for a low cost way to convert or load your HD DVDs to your computer, newegg has an HD DVD drive with OEM PowerDVD HD for $99.

AnyDVD HD lasts for 21 days for free so you could transfer alot of disks in that period of time.

Isn't XBOX 360 HD DVD drive could also work as PC HD DVD drive for the same purpose and receiving 1+5 free HD DVD movies?

Did you order the Planet Earth BBC version or US Discovery Channel version? I heard the original BBC version is much better, well at least is longer.
Unless you love the voice of Sigourney Weaver, then get the US version.

FYE as in Fry's electronics? If so does this mean all of them or just selected ones?

Just read the post you were talking about. Interesting. Wonder how well that works. For instance I wonder if it preserves 1080p and TrueHD. I would guess so otherwise what would be the point.

I think its the Sigourney Weaver narrated version thats what the link said, I'd prefer the BBC version, but this was cheapest.

Now if star trek would drop to $40 I'd buy it.

You do not have to go thru Ebay to get deals on Ebay most are willing to bypass the final charge/relisting fees to save themselves money and me.

Most are nervous and wanna ditch. Makes it easier

*Edit Removed steps cause technically your not suppose to contact a seller after a sale ends without a buyer

Makes it easier when most just want out and are selling them cause they think they will be stuck with a useless player

yes, but it you are really taking a chance on getting the rebate fullfilled and I don't think you can use it more than once. It is the same rebate as the toshiba which most of us have already used.

There was a fire sale of HD-DVD's @ my local Walmart today! I took a pic of the incident.

Get'em while they're hot! (I am still like one of the biggest HD-DVD fans out there lol)

I also ordered mine on the 9th, and I just received it, today. It shipped from Kentucky, and I'm in So Cal.

It is the U.S. "Discovery" version. I haven't watched any of it yet, but from what I've read, it's still some great eye candy, and since I've never seen the BBC version, I'm sure I'll be perfectly content watching this one on my lowly 42" Sammy 720 dlp

Is it worth buying titles from Amazon at their 50% price or should we wait?

There's also the problem of dvds going out of stock fast (popular titles like transformers)...

That's the gamble...

If you wait too long the good stuff will be gone. After all, this is a liquidation on a global scale.

I'm in the $12-14 range right now and buying all I can afford to buy once they hit that target. I'm hoping they keep adding more and more into that range as stuff sells.

Once the fire sale is over at a retail level I'm going to hit ebay up and buy used.
