FYE no longer accepting used HD DVDs, and will no longer be offering new or used HD DVDs. Not quite sure when this goes into effect (other than them not buying used ones... which is already in effect).

I was hoping to get the ultimate matrix on a used HD DVD, with one of those 40% off coupons (which they have in SLC, UT right now, and they expire Saturday -- tomorrow). No Matrix at either SL County store.

Sure seems like a dumb idea to me to not offer used ones. Some titles may go up in value. It's not like owners of HD DVD players are going to quit buying disks if they have a choice.

Was just at the one FYE Superstore yesterday here in Buffalo NY and the girl there said they had a meeting earlier that day and would still be taking used HD DVDs for trade and selling used.

I'm going to guess this is a regional/store level decision as opposed to a corporate one. She said her manager said they'd continue to sell them/take them in trade because people still have the players and will probably want movies for them. How long the supply holds out is another question. The demand here however apparently warrants that decision (that said I probably account for 2/3s of the demand, 90% of my 170 or so HD DVDs were purchased used under their promos).

Anyway I picked up a copy of The Invasion used on Thursday with the coupon for $11. I know the one location has a copy of the Ultimate Matrix used but I'd never make it back there tomorrow before the coupons expire, and I already have the regular box set from that Circuit City $19.99 error last year.

Aside from the odd movie someone trades in I own most of the titles they usually stock (the Superstores here stocked about 250 titles), I'm maybe 60 shy of the number they stock, the only ones I don't have have never come back used.

The format wars are over Primal, you lose - Megatron from Beast Machines (partially)

So long HD-DVD, I will miss you no matter how much I complained about Combo Discs.

There are several FYE stores in the Salt Lake City area. They're fairly new, too... opened within the past 2 years. I was in the closest store two days ago... no signs of dropping HD-DVD, or of lowering the prices on used HD-DVD discs. They had, however, moved all Blu-ray discs out of the usual location to an on-wall display thing where they are much more difficult to browse.

(Too bad they wanted $39.99 for Nacho Libre. Had it been priced a little more within SANITY, they would have made a sale.)

Has FYE ever sold an HD DVD?

I mean they're there, in the racks, but have they ever actually sold one at stinking MSRP?

(and they'll wonder why HD DVD died....)

Yeah, ALL of the stores in CO closed, even the one that opened up a year ago.

Well at least someone is supporting them besides me then I always seem to be the only one looking at any HD movies there , I love that place, best selection around and those used deals are awesome. When they've got the used coupons I try and make it to both locations if at all possible. I've been combing the HDs and Blu Rays as much as possible for the past year, but don't worry I don't buy them all. Anyway thats where I heard they'd still be buying selling used, when I was standing in line buying The Invasion.

That said I did make it to the McKinley store today and was told the same thing the Transit store told me, they'll continue to take trade in, continue to sell as long as there is supply. They have a copy of the Matrix Ultimate box set and the Heroes box set used at the McKinley location if you feel like taking a ride out there and are looking for either of those. If there are particular titles you're looking for at the McKinley store send me a list and I'll let you know if they've got it, I usually make it there once a week, and every used title they've currently got I already own.

As far as MSRP, the Superstores are less expensive than the mall stores, and the selection isn't even comparable, those who've been to one know what I'm talking about. Like a tiny rack of maybe 30-40 titles at the mall vs. about 250, and their Blu-ray selection is equally good. I'm quite impressed with the Superstores and they always seem to be running a coupon sale. I hardly shop elsewhere these days, they've just been too good to me.

Dr Kain, I'm in the suburbs, not really in the city of Buffalo itself.

I just got back from my local FYE in central PA and they are still taking HD-DVDs for trade in. I traded in 10 HD-DVDs for a total of $73.50 in store credit.

Training Day - $ 7.50
Blood Diamond - $12.00
Good Night & Good Luck (Combo Disc) - $12.00
A Clockwork Orange - $ 5.25
The Shining - $ 5.25
Million Dollar Baby - $1.50
Nine Inch Nails: Beside You In Time - $ 9.00
A Scanner Darkly - $ 7.50
The Perfect Storm - $ 7.50
Payback - $ 9.00

I don't know how things are going at other FYE locations, but at my local store, they give 25% more trade in value than cash, and on top of that, they are having another promotion right now for an additional 20% trade in credit. I have already acquired Blu-ray versions of the first 7 for roughly $75 and I have no intentions to replace the bottom 3, so I'm feeling pretty good about this.

And in other news, I noticed that my local Wal-mart either removed or relocated all of their HD movies, because they weren't where they usually are and I didn't see them anywhere else.

Have you ever been in an FYE? They have sales all the time that bring the prices in line at least with what Best Buy is selling them at...sometimes a few bucks cheaper. Plus they have decent prices on used movies that they guarantee.

And if you have their card you save 10% on every purchase, new or used.

no, the movie is quite good. i don't usually enjoy sports movies, but it is very well done. like i said in my post, i have already replaced the first 7 of those 10 HD-DVDs with Blu-ray versions because i'm gonna try to slowly switch my HD-DVDs to Blu-ray when I can get good deals. i'm not gonna replace the last 3 because i didn't like them enough to warrant a 2nd viewing.

i know it is likely that i could have gotten a few bucks more on ebay or on here, but i did the math, and for that specific batch of movies, i essentially broke even, so i was ok with such a low value for that one movie.

40% coupons are in the flyers at the stores. You can't get the coupons any other way that I know of. They tend to expire on Saturdays, so the most recent one is now void.
