I have a Denon 2930CI as my DVD/CD player. I run an HDMI cable to my Yamaha RX-V2700 which has a 24/192 Burr Brown DAC.

Am I correct in my understanding that, with the above setup, the digital-to-analog conversion in my system is being done in the Yamaha's DAC? If so, would I be better off letting the Denon do the D/A conversion and then running analog cables up to the receiver to play directly in "pure direct" mode?

Does it matter? I guess it's a question of which sounds better, but in theory, should it matter? Both are fairly upper-middle-end units.

Thanks,
Brian

You are correct that the Yamaha is doing the DAC work. The Denon 2930CI also has 24/192 Burr Brown DACs (PCM-1791a). There is no chance in the universe that you could ever hear a difference. None. Zero. Ziltch.
