Marc,

I don't doubt that transferring files to the OliveOne will be no worse than any other device such as Sonos, or whatever, I just wish that the bizarre encryption code in our old Olive devices was breakable so that our editing in the old device could be transferred over automatically. I'm not even talking about the extra/esoteric fields that I put in like "orchestra" or "chorus", but simply wish that the basic artist/album/track name would come over as I had edited them.

Hi Mike,

There is no such thing as an encryption code in your Olive. It's just its habit of keeping ALL your valuable edits in the unencrypted, not-password protected, plain vanilla SQLite database zDB, and nothing of it goes to the track-files. These are kept unaltered from day 1. Only if you had edited them on your pc and had imported them in your Olive, they would contain just what you entered when exported to XBMC or whatever. But nothing that you changed after the import.

I guess, but it's just a guess, that Olive will provide a tool to transfer files form your 'old' Olive to the new one. Having that said, for my bunch of Olives 4 I only can rely on the horrible backup and restore 'tool', nothing fancy of that sort.

Has anyone had the Opus 4 and the 06HD. I just wondering if there is any sound difference between the two.

Of course there is. It's obvious when playing 24 bit material. :-)

16 bit and max 96Khz resolution. Yielding to 96dB for the loudest and 48Kh for the highest tone.
But that is just theory. There is much more that influences the sound.
Maybe Mark Rubin can address that.
Anyway, I bought 3 Olive 4's because the sound is beatiful enough for me.

I think that transfering the music to an Olive1 will not be such a disaster, but... you never know. In stead, take a Sonos or so, what then?
As the old saying goes, it takes two to tango.

The Sonos or so will have to eat what the Olive spits out.
So you need a decent import function, but the so-so streamer needs to have the same fields in its database. Roughly. That is the real challenge.

Yup. I shed my tears early. Been using JRiver, now version 20, which rips on a Mac and gets the metadata usually correct except of course for classical. However, JRiver has a very deep tag set (conductor, orchestra, chorus, etc.), and writes everything into the file metadata (as compared to Olive which keeps in the Olive SQL database).

So, rip using JRiver, XLD or similar, get everything right and then transfer to the Olive. As Marc says, the Olive will spit the files out again, correctly.

Players like Sonos or Bluesound only read in the metadata; they do not create metadata databases (except for a library index).

If there is a way to import data into the other device batch-wise, and if you are able to create an importfile with some neat SQL-statements, theoretically it must be possible to transfer the SQL-metadata to the other-device-metadata.
But it will be a challenge. For most of us, the first challenge is to access the zDB directly.

Why is it when you merge albums they are never in order. I find this really annoying.

I just upgraded my router with a new dual band model. It changed all of my IP addresses on all of devices. You guys will need to get into the Olive's system info and see what the new IP address is and change it in Maestro so that it will work.
