I got a new cartridge, thanks to some help on my other thread, but being my first record player, I have some questions on operation and other stuff, if anybody could help me out (it didn't come with a manual)

1) What are these for?

a.

b.

c. A window/display on the front. Buncha dots, not sure what it means.

d. What am I turning on and off?

2) I can adjust where the cartridge sits on the rod. Is there an optimal placement or is it trial and error or does it not matter?
(edit: I found a stylus alignment protractor hidden in the shure cartridge box with no usage instructions and doesn't make any sense to me.)

3) The volume on the record player is really low, I have to turn the receiver almost to max. Is there something I can change physically to alter the volume?

4) A few pieces snapped off while being shipped, most of which is no big deal, I'll just glue them back. But I found this piece and I can't figure out where it goes, it might not even be a part of it.

5) The plate is scratching against something underneath, I can hear it once every revolution and it's pretty loud but I can't figure out what it is. Is this a common problem and is there an easy way of figuring out what it is?

a- lift the arm
b- anti skating
c- strobe, one band should stand still when turning at proper speed

3- do you use a phono in? You need a phono stage (more amplification/ RIAA correction). Sound like you are using a conventional line in.

Maybe this is of use:

Thanks, doesn't seem to be doing anything, I guess it's probably broken.

Cool, so I use the pitch dial until the one band stands still?

Is this the same as an amplifier? I would assume there's a component in the braun atelier series to make everything work together. I already have a receiver (R4), just that the record player sound coming in is much softer than from every other source. Do I need an additional amplifier solely for the turntable?

Check if the receiver has an input explicitly labeled as phone

The thumbscrew holds the head to the arm (the screw faces up and comes in from the bottom)
sounds like this unit is a bit rough
