Any suggestions? Been heavily considering the Music Hall 5.1, going to pull the trigger late this week, but doing as much research as I can beforehand. Thanks!

Also consider the Pro-Ject RM-5 SE, or the REGA - RP3.

Amazon has Technics SL1200MK5 for exactly your price. Get classic while you still can.

Have always heard good things about this table but recently there hasn't been much buzz about it. Figured that the other companies I was researching had closed the gap at least by now from when I made my last purchase years ago since recent reviews don't mention the technics anymore.

That's because it's no longer made. That's why the price is as high as it is. (Less than a decade ago you could pick one up for $400 or so.) All the little belt-drive companies are not closing any gaps; they are tinkering at the margins.

I have the Music Hall MMF-7 at one house and the 2.2 at the other. I personally think the difference between the 2.2 and the 5.1 is insignificant. The really significant improvements only come with the 7.1.

I would suggest that you get the 2.2 and spend $400 on a Benz Silver cartridge for it. That is what I did and the sound quality is excellent.

Thanks to your advice, went with a Pro ject 5.1 that was a in-store demo unit for $300 off. Ordered the Magnespan MMG for the 60 day trial as well.

If it was used as demo, than stylus or whole cartridge replacement should be your first step. You never know how many hours it was running.

Good choice. I actually just bought an RM 1.3 Genie for the amount you saved on your demo 5.1 haha If you're looking for a replacement cart, I'd recommend the Ortofon OM40 Super in MM, or the Dynavector 10X5 (the one I personally use) in high-output MC.

Also start looking around for a good phono stage, and consider buying the pro-ject speedbox II. World of difference.
