I've had the Pioneer PD-M602 in storage for a very long time. Just wondering where it stands on the quality scale. Thanks.

On a sound quality scale of 1 to 10, about a 3 IMO; not so hot. If it has a digital output, a high-quality external DAC could make a substantial improvement. There have been huge improvements in the DAC chipsets used in most CD players since then.

By comparison, a Cambridge Audio 350C would be maybe a 7, an OPPO BDP-93 would be an 8, and an OPPO BDP-95 or an Ayre C5 would be a 10.

OK; Thanks. My next question was going to be if it would get damaged by putting my new 45lbs integrated amp directly on top of it, but if it's a "3" I'm not going to worry about damage.

So you have experience with the Pioneer? Seems like you would know whether it has a digital output or not.

Johny, ignore people who base sound quality on brand name alone.
