I have 2 Adcom GCD-700 CD players. I've always loved their sound quality. Recently each of them has been getting erratic in behavior. Both have been in for maintenance a couple of times in the last 2 years. They continue to manifest problems reading disks etc... Is the firmware so outdated as to be malfunctioning? Am I wasting money trying to keep these machines operating?

I prefer the multi-disk format (I listen to a lot of classical music) and the Adcoms seemed to have the best quality of any such players. If I do give-up on my Adcoms, what 5 disk CD player has equivalent sonic quality? Is the Marantz CC4003 sonically solid?.

Most likely source of the problem is aging laser assembly. It uses one from Sony. Try to find one new. Changing it is an easy task and usually does not require any further tuning.

Thank you. I'll try that (actually suggest it to the folks who work on my gear).
