I have an external dac. And i want to use a htpc to connect to the dac via digital out thereby it is technically a transport.

I have read that most cd players do sound very similiarl.....does a CD-ROM or bdrom also apply?

Would love to hear your comments!

Yes, this applies to BD rom as well. The digital output from a properly functioning drive will be identical do the digital output of the same disc from a different player. Sending the digital data to your DAC is just like copying a word file from a CD-R to your computer. The 1s and 0s will stay the same unless something is broken.
