Hey all, first post.

I sold my Squeezebox Touch a while ago after they announced it was being discontinued. I have since been looking for a replacement but everything I can see is either far too expensive or doesn't have the features and ease of use that the Squeezebox had. Just for clarification, this is what I want:

Wireless streaming from computer

Ability to play FLAC in 24/96 over wireless

iPhone app to select music etc

Digital and RCA outs

Does a reasonably priced product like this exist? Willing to spend up to $1000 but obviously the less the better.

Sorry, I just realized I posted this in the wrong forum.

Seems like a logical place to post a question regarding audio (ie non-video) network streamers to me!

Anyway, I'd recommend the Pioneer N-50 network audio player in the up to $1000 range. Unfortunately, wireless requires an extra adapter and you'll probably be better off using a pair of powerline network adapters as a compromise (most likely cheaper too). You really need to make sure you have a decent wireless network setup in order to be able to stream hi-res FLAC files, 24/96 resolution and above.

For mainstream UPnP/DLNA supporting devices, ease of use when network streaming will actually come down to the (third party) UPnP/DLNA server (which supplies the music library) and the UPnP/DLNA controller software you choose to use, rather than the streamer itself. The supplied app is normally mostly used for the streamer's other possible features, such as selecting internet radio, the USB input, etc.

If you Google a little on "streaming audio players" you will find a lot of boxes.
Maybe my website is of use: http://thewelltemperedcomputer.com/HW/DAP.htm
Have a look at Bluesound http://www.bluesound.com/
It supports up to 192 kHz

Can't argue with Roseval's comment.

Incidentally, many thanks for the Well-Tempered Computer site, Roseval.
It's been an invaluable source of computer audio info for the last few years. Even originally found out about the Pioneer N-50 there!

Why not stick with Squeezebox (LMS)?
You can make a player using an old iphone or ipod and a digital dock, running ipeng play software.

Thanks for the links. The Bluesound Node looks interesting.. It needs an external DAC though right?

It has both a internal dac and a toslink out

I know this thread is old, i've been researching for a good network streamer for weeks... i found some interesting replacements here with reviews: http://www.audiostream.com/content/g...yers-streamers

While the available Touch units on EBay seem to go for a premium price, in comparison to a lot of the newer streamers at over $1000, other than the Pioneer or Marantz units, the Touch is still the cream of the crop for value. Mine is five plus years old and going strong. Running it through an inexpensive Caiman DAC and it is perfect for my whole home audio. When it dies, I am likely to go to a Cambridge Audio Stream MagicII or similar replacement. Mine is wired via Ethernet, and no issues with 24/96 playback. How do we lobby Logitech to bring this puppy back?
