Do we all hate Bose because the quality sucks or the price? I agree that the Wave Radio is waaaaaaayyy over priced. But lets say its price point was around $150 new... I bet everyone would be preaching the Bose gospel.

I love the Wave Radio. I have 3 in different rooms of the house. Even use one as a mini home theatre sound system for a Blue Ray.

The amazing thing about this unit is how it fills the room with crystal clear sound no matter where you sit. Even when sitting behind the unit in a room it sounds like you're sitting in front of a quality pair of speakers.

Comparing it to a clock radio is insane and frankly just plain ignorant.

Amazing unit.

We like this one for a bedroom sound source: http://store.cambridgesoundworks.com...B00345Y144.htm

It does it all and sounds very, very nice. Clean sound; never tried it all that loud as it fills the room with Vivaldi easily at a low setting. Good FM radio reception in a difficult FM location (my Pionner SX950 won't receive anything downstairs without a roof mounted antenna while the Cambidge picks up most everything ou of Portland,OR unassisted by external antenna.)

Their home theater systems are really, really bad. The satellites have been measured at ~280-13khz +-10.5db and the bass module at 46-220hz. Quite honestly the worst frequency response for a speaker anywhere near that systems price point i've ever seen.

I have major doubts about the wave radio also. First off its not a stereo design, its mono. Its got 2, 2" drivers, one is playing low frequencies, attached to the mythical 'acoustical wave guide' which is just a transmission line enclosure that snakes through the radio interior. The other 2" driver plays all the higher frequencies. They use some DSP filtering tricks to achieve a diffuse sound field.

The summary of bose tends to be they are very good at marketing, they don't sell systems with flat frequency response nor do they even try to. They sell what can be made cheaply and sound good with sources that would be popular with their target audience for the product. They also don't do anything particularly original in their acoustical design. The transmission line enclosure that makes the wave radio what it is has been around for decades and is actually a very good type of enclosure.

That's all fine, but that doesn't generally cut it with for the folks that frequent these forums.

You're right. Everyone should have a Wave Radio in their toilet. You and Oprah are true audiofools.

Back from the dead!

While I disliked the Bose audio system that came in any number of Mazdas I've owned, and I didn't care for the sound of the Bose Acoustimass II speaker system, I have to say that the Bose Wave Radio I had for 15 years offered very good sound. Also my Bose QuietComfort 15 Noise Canceling headphones, while not having particularly good sound, do a great job at canceling noise here in the city.
