I wanted to send kudos to Canton's WRQK regarding their much improved HD signal 26 miles out from their transmission point. Their HD2 stream is far more solid than it was 10 weeks ago. The bad news is that their "Contact us" link on their station homepage is broken! The good news is that I noticed the difference upon returning back to work after a 9 week foot injury. My work setup is untouched and I had super glued the antenna rods in position after hunting for their signal for nearly 3 hours originally. Once I found their signal, I was able to receive them fairly reliably on a daily basis, BUT NOT WITHOUT DIGITAL DROPOUTS on many occasions depending on the cloud cover patterns in the morning. I don't care what they had to do be it improve their digital antenna radiation pattern, or if they were able to slightly increase their digital power output; whatever was done IMPROVED THEIR RECEPTION SUBSTANTIALLY. On my way to work, I know every corner that I was supposed to lose their stream including a tall apartment tower that would shadow their signal into the dirt. NOT NOW! Just a dB or two, makes a WORLD of difference especially with HD2 streams that have no fallback. I tune them in only for their HD2 service which makes this improvement crucial for increased enjoyment mobile or stationary. This is an example of being so familiar with anticipated drop-out zones that were diminished and not by atmospheric enhancement, but by the steady benefit of more digital signal being made available. Everyone should "pat" their HD radio stations on the back whenever they stick their necks out and do something good for their audience. Critics and Realists will tell you it's a tiny demo and they really don't have to devote much attention to these fragile signals in lieu of shrinking revenue, so pat them hard when you can!!

Call them: 330-492-5630. I'm sure the program director will be overjoyed to hear from you. E-mails to "contact us" links could be read by just about anybody. Call. Leave a voicemail for the General Manager or Program director. Honestly, you'll make their day to even know someone's listening.

Walking the fine line between jaw-dropping and a plain ol' yawn.

Thanks Dr Don. I called and was directed to Mr. Keith Kennedy's voicemail. He's got to be one of the hardest working individuals in this area (NE Ohio). I believe he is in charge of a cluster of stations in this area including Newstalk 640 WHLO Akron, WARF 1350 Cuyahoga Falls (Fox Sports AM HD fulltime service Directional pattern), Akron's 98.1 WKDD ( 50KW FM HD hot AC blowtorch Mr. Kennedy has a DJ slot there), Canton's Rock station 27.5 KW WRQK 106.9 HD ()which simulcasts their sister station WHLO on HD2. Finally, Oldies Class A outlet WHOF FM HD 101.7 serving North Canton with 6KW the only stream I can't lock anywhere but in the car when I'm heading towards the airport. All the FMs have 2 streams each and only 640 WHLO is analog. So the man with many hats, had many reasons to be out of the office when I called to praise the HD signal of WRQK.
