The Philadelphia Phillies and CBS RADIO's WOGL are teaming up to launch the "Phillies 24/7", the first ever HD Radio multicast station exclusively dedicated to a Major League Baseball team. Phillies 24/7 will air continuously throughout the year and feature live play-by-play of every regular season Phillies game on-air at 98.1 WOGL HD4, plus game re-broadcasts the following morning at 9am.

I think this would help HD radio quite a bit, if more regions of the country offered sports programming. Just last week one of my employees came in, pointed to my HD tuner, and asked if there were any baseball games on that thing that couldn't be received on regular radio. I know two people who would pony up for a new radio just to listen to baseball games.

Unfortunately, not too many people are as intensely interested in music as me, so I say bring on the sports sub-channels if it will increase the user base.

We've actually tried to arrange that, here, but the originating networks all want analog carriage or there's no deal. We've also kicked around high school and juco sports, with coverage done by students. But there's the issue of having to have someone babysit the feed for the profanity delay.

I heard a Seattle HD-2 covering a UW softball game last summer. Collegiate sports on HD Radio seem like an easy deal, especially for the less popular sports.

NOW: my post on AVS Forum.
NEXT: someone else's post on AVS Forum.

I've heard of MRN turning up on subchannels, too.

I agree, HS and college sports would sell radios. Everyone wants to hear his or her kid making plays on the radio. Any radio.

Well, it's voice. And given the number of people who listen to sports on AM, I'm pretty sure the sound quality won't be much more annoying than that.
