I think CBS Radio still plans to add an HD Radio signal for Kiss 95.1 and WSOC-FM 103.7. Because as a whole, that company has been a big adopter of the IBOC format. I was told the delay was due to expense and technical reasons but they are still planning to move forward. Hopefully soon. As both stations have a strong analog signal.

Speaking of CBS, apparently WBT has dropped its decades long affiliation with the CBS News network and signed with ABC. Perhaps now one of the CBS owned stations can pick it up for one of their HD Radio subchannels. Assuming the CBS News network is still owned by CBS Radio.

Yeah, CBS Radio News is still ours, though distributed by Dial-Global, now.

Walking the fine line between jaw-dropping and a plain ol' yawn.

DrDon have you heard an update regarding CBS plans to upgrade 95.1 and 103.7 to HD Radio in Charlotte? Both have strong signals, but the HD upgrade has been delayed for a long time. But I thought they were finally getting ready to add the IBOC. Anything you know or can share?

I guess you are unable to comment at this time. But hopefully these stations will eventually upgrade to HD Radio. I had heard unofficially they were still working to get there, but there were some major technical issues involved.

Sorry, I guess I never subscribed to this thread, so missed your message. I haven't heard anything, but then again, I probably wouldn't.

There was no HD Radio signal on Channel 96.1 today, and tonight the analog signal is down or at reduced power. Must be some sort of technical problem or work going on. And their sister station, 102.9 the Lake has a much improved signal in recent months, both analog and HD. I don't know if they increased power or changed the antenna, but it has been much stronger. But I don't think they are on the Dallas tower unless they recently moved it.

I can now listen to 1110-WBT on WNLK-107.9 HD-2 as well as 99.3FM at my location in Greenville, SC. Inside the house with rabbit ears, they are both perfectly clear reception. But can be spotty and drop out in the car. But that does help to correct the reception problem west of the Catawba River at night for the AM signal. Now if they could just remove that western null for 107.9, it would come in better in the car like it used to. As 107.9 used to have a very strong signal in the GSP area. Now it can be spotty, and 95.1 and 96.1 are better. But in the house, all is good.

WLNK has boosted the power of the HD Radio signal this week for 107.9 the Link with a technical upgrade. And the analog signal has improved as well, where there has been a bit of a null to the west. I get a solid HD lock with rabbit ears on my home radio, and the HD also locks in more consistently in northern Greenville, SC. The HD signal should be improved in all outerlying fringe areas, and the analog seems better as well. And they carry 11.10 WBT on WLNK-HD2.

Kiss 95.1 appears to be at reduced power this afternoon, as I am barely receiving a signal. Perhaps they are doing some technical work at the transmitter site, which uses the WJZY TV tower near Dallas. All appears normal with 46, as well as Channel 96.1 which uses the same tower.

95.1 may be on the common backup site on Radio Rd. I am not getting RDS on my receiver here in Race City USA.

I'm an NPR junkie (commercial radio is filled with... commercials) and WFAE broadcasts in HD with subchannels. Moving to Lake Wylie in a few months and have a new receiver for my theater room that has an HD tuner built-in. I hope to be able to bring in WFAE and transmit it through the whole house wirelessly. Not quite sure yet how I'm going to accomplish that - Sonos?

I believe the Sonos system will accomplish wireless streaming through the house, and there may be other soundbar choices as well. But for stable HD Radio reception, be sure you have a good FM antenna, such as the Winegard 6000. Or a good VHF TV antenna. But I would avoid an amp, as I have found them to be detrimental to HD Radio reception.

Thanks. I know SONOS will stream your iTunes library, and that's cool, but will it stream a radio signal as well? As long as the data is transmitting wirelessly, I would think that it wouldn't matter what kind of ones and zeros that data is, would it?

As to the source device, I'm using a Denon X4000 for the HD radio. It's a pretty high-end receiver, so there's a good chance they've figured out a way to shield the radio tuner from the amplifier section. If not, I'll look into an FM radio. I'll look into a good antenna as you recomment, but it's got to work inside the house - inside the theater room gear closet, actually. But those powered digital antennas are pretty good. I've used one to pull in the Charlotte digital transmitters, which are located on the north side of town, all the way to Pineville and inside the house. Even a big Channelmaster Yagi I had mounted on my storage shed couldn't do that reliably.

But wouldn't an HD radio have to have wireless capability built-in in order to tie into the SONOS system?

Those powered digital antennas which are amplified do not work well for HD Radio, and will often cause the HD Radio signal to drop out. And those flat panels are not designed well for FM reception. But you can always try. But an indoor closet may be problematic for reception. Ideally the antenna should be outside or at least in the attic. Otherwise, for FM radio, I would suggest a good set of basic rabbit ears to work best.

Apparently in recent days they have indeed improved their HD Radio signal for 107.9 the Link, and the analog signals seems better as well. And WBT sounds better on WLNK HD-2 rather than the static from the AM signal. And in some areas this will fill a void where 99.3 may not be an option.

Kiss 95.1 appears to be off the air or reduced power this morning. I cannot receive them here in Greenville, SC, but the other Charlotte stations are coming in strong.

UPDATE: Kiss 95.1 is back to full power and coming in strong here in Greenville, SC as of later this afternoon. And now the big news: They are now broadcasting an HD Radio signal! But not sure if the HD is full power yet or if they're still tinkering with it. Or if they are as strong as 107.9 which recently boosted power. But I am getting them with rabbit ears in the house. Although no HD-2 subchannel yet.

I am not exactly sure how they mix the analog and HD Radio signals through the transmitter, but the 95.1 analog signal now seems a bit weaker than before the HD Radio signal was added. In terms of fringe reception at my location in Greenville, SC. Whereas previously they had a very strong, omnidirectional signal. Perhaps they are still working on it. Hopefully they can boost the power a bit on the HD signal, as 96.1 and 107.9 seem stronger on HD. But one major technical issue they need to correct. Whenever the HD signal drops out, it does not revert back to the analog audio, resulting in dead air and silence. Very annoying in the car, as you constantly have to retune the 95.1 signal. Which makes me just switch over to 96.1 or 93.7 for a hit music station. Although I am more likely to listen to 107.9 or 102.9 in terms of my own personal musical tastes.

The HD has been down this afternoon on 95.1, so I guess they are still working on it. I hope when it's all done they will preserve their strong analog signal, but I guess some of the power has to go to the HD.

Apparently there are still technical issues with the HD Radio signal for 95.1, as it remains down for a second day. I noticed that the analog signal seemed weaker when they had the HD running, as well as the failure to fall back to analog when the HD dropped out. Hopefully they will eventually get it all work out.

I am not getting a lock on the HD signal for WSOC-FM. Tried both rabbit ears then the Winegard 6000 FM antenna in the attic. Perhaps they are not yet full power. But I am at a further distance from the 103.7 transmitter site. I do get a lock on the Gaston County HD signals but they are closer to my location. Hopefully they will get 95.1 up again soon in HD. And hopefully more of the Charlotte HD signals will soon increase to full power like WLNK recently did.

V-101.9 HD signal has been down due to technical issues. Hopefully they will get it repaired soon, as well as the 95.1 HD up and running again.

Update: The HD Radio is now operating again on V-101.9 and Kiss 95.1. However, the radio data is not functioning with the play list info on 95.1 when the HD locks in. It worked on the analog.

Still working on the HD on 95.1, as it is down again today. And the analog appears to be at reduced power. I guess it is a bit of a project to add the HD to a full power analog system. Hopefully they will eventually get it all worked out.
